D&D 5E Adventures in Elsir Vale (pre-Red Hand of Doom)

Lost Mines of Phandelver (starter box) would be easy to drop into the Elsir Vale or just outside of it. That's what I am planning on doing. That would get characters to level 5. Then throw in something to transition from LMoP to RHoD and get the characters another level and you're good.

D&D 5E Hex is a WAY better spell than Hunters Mark

I could be wrong, but I think Hex just causes disadvantage to ability checks, not saving throws.

D&D General Why do we Round Down???

Off the top of my head, is the Wizard's Arcane Recovery. I know there are a few more that I've read. I don't think it's nearly as much of a problem that OP thinks it is. And it's not like you have to memorize the exceptions. Every exception explicitly calls out that it rounds up in the...

D&D 5E New House Rule Idea - Passive Initiative for First Round of Combat (Feedback Wanted!)

I don't have a problem with passive initiative for quick combats. It can just speed things up. But I don't think it really solves some of the problems you are having. It just pushes them off to the second round. Instead of the whole "Roll for Initiative" moment/sequence that serves as a...

D&D 5E How broken would it be to let people always spend a bonus action to make an off-hand attack, even if they didn't use an Attack action with a primary?

No. You absolutely can't do that. You can't just make an attack with a bonus action. Frenzy barbarians can make an additional bonus action attack if they use the attack action. That is part of their level 3 class trait. That may have been what they were doing. But they still need to attack with...

    D&D 5E Attunement question

I would go with "requires attunement to [sword name]" to be able to use it. If the paladin ever unattunes from the sword, then arm loses it's power. Either just becoming a regular arm with no bonuses or becoming completely useless, depending on what the DM/party would find more fun.

    D&D 5E Vicious Dagger question

RAW, it does not work like that. It happens on a roll of 20, not on a critical hit, so it doesn't matter if something increases the critical hit range. That being said, it wouldn't be game breaking to allow it. 10% of the characters attacks do an extra 7 damage, that is hardly going to throw...

    D&D 5E Long Rest/HD: I've been doing it wrong

I'd tell your players you just noticed you've been doing this rule wrong and ask if they want to change or keep using it like you have been. Or say that you're planning on keeping it the same as you have been unless they want to change. Whether or not it really matters much depends on your...

    D&D 5E A Shield spell that Scales

But your problem is still players maxing out AC to break the game, not the shield spell itself. Without magic items, the highest AC you can get is 20 (plate + a shield). The Shield spell boosts that to 25. And that is limited by the number of spell slots, so only available for a set number of...

    D&D 5E A Shield spell that Scales

Your problem is this. Not the shield spell. The magic items are what is breaking bounded accuracy. The game isn't made for characters to be running around with 27 AC. Unless you're playing a high magic game and everyone has super high AC. Then the DM can adjust by increasing the attack bonus to...

WotC ICv2 Has A Theory That WotC Will Be Sold

I think you could totally pull it off in this way and it would work fine. The problem would come from some non-creative moneyman pulling the strings and telling the writers/director/etc. that they need to dump in all of this extraneous information so that the audience isn't confused. Leading to...

    D&D 5E Usefull falling damage?

I generally agree with most other people. I am also of the opinion that at a certain point, you just die from falling. Excluding using feather fall, etc. Ignore the 20d6 damage and the character just dies. At some height (and this will differ for each person), surviving a fall becomes too...

D&D 5E As a Player, why do you play in games you haven't bought into?

That is a gross mischaracterization of what people have said. Most people have commented on it saying that you need to be clear what your intent of that game is when you say Knights of the Round Table. With just "Knights of the Round Table" as guidance, many people have different...

D&D 5E As a Player, why do you play in games you haven't bought into?

Great DMs will adjust to what the players want to play as well.

D&D 5E As a Player, why do you play in games you haven't bought into?

And Merlin, Morgana nor Mordred were knights of the round table. So, in my Knights of the Round table campaign, why are you playing a character that specifically WASN'T a knight of the round table and then blaming me for not being flexible enough? But, if I don't want to deal with ronin or...

D&D 5E It's official, WOTC hates Rangers (Tasha's version of Favored Foe is GARBAGE)

I'm playing a ranger right now and have played in groups with one before. I've never felt it was crappy or useless. I agree with the others that have said how it feels to play is very subjective. Just looking at it from a white room math focus, it does look underpowered, especially when feats...

D&D 5E Breath Weapon Recharge Variant

While starting that way may tone down the fight a bit (or at least ensure it doesn't start on a huge bang), I would never roll it in front of my players and let them know what it meant. That would take some of the fun out of for me, both as a player and as a DM. It doesn't quite fit my play style.

    D&D 5E Eldritch spear + spellsniper + distant spell

I meant a general rule, but good to know. Thanks!

    D&D 5E Eldritch spear + spellsniper + distant spell

Where are the rules for that interpretation? I am not aware of a rule that says take the greater of two options if they both affect the same thing or that things that multiply are additive.

    D&D 5E Eldritch spear + spellsniper + distant spell

It says that it doubles the range, How does that not change the spell's range? I am not aware of a rule that says change the range of something does not change it's range. And then how is that any different from eldritch spear changing the range to 300ft? How do those two things stack if...
