    (Mostly) Uncontroversial Quirks of 5E

Another vote on the index. It buggers me that the victim of charm person knows they were charmed. It makes the iconic spell never used at my table. I wish the class spell lists included the school of magic. The binding on my PHB and MM has fallen apart. Quality control, WotC. Halfling art...

D&D 5E Miles per day on horseback: how many?

Pretty gamey, but I like movement speed/10 per hour.

Give Me Your Dragon Heist Tips

I am running a winter game, probably about halfway through. Some thoughts: Do not run it if your players like a sandbox environment. It very much needs players willing to follow the plot. The plot gets very confusing from the player perspective. It helps if your players are fine with having...

Huh. I always assumed they were some faerie creature of myth.

What is your campaign balance? Combat vs Social?

My games tend to roughly break down as: 25% combat planning 25% combat resolution 25% exploration 25% social

So Mike Mearls is on the phone...

I am so easy that I will probably get what I want. Needs a desert adventure/gazetteer for Anauroch in the same vein as the other 5e adventures. Needs a ship-based adventure/gazetteer for the islands and towns along the sword coast.

Campaign Settings and DM Strictures, the POLL

As a general rule of thumb, I do not see how a DM can run a campaign of significant length without 5. So many possible interactions that it is well nigh impossible to know everything up front, and failure to reign in problems can collapse the campaign. I am a huge believer in, "your cool idea...

Dungeon of the Mad Mage and the "Withered Heart (spoilers)

    A. "Heart in a box" made me think of Pirates of the Caribbean wherein the heart was a valuable thing everyone wanted to control. I can see a player having their PC fiddle with it during a short rest the same as they may fiddle with any magic item discovered. B. Messing with random body parts...

Dungeon of the Mad Mage and the "Withered Heart (spoilers)

IMO, it has a very important purpose showcasing how Undermountain cannot be beat simply by smashing the PCs against conveniently scaled challenge ratings. Puts the players in a careful exploration mindset. It also sets up Halaster as a mad mage who likes to play devious tricks, assuming the...

D&D 5E Would You Rather Have a LE or CN party member?

Depending on the campaign premise, I would be fine with either. Alternatively, either could be inappropriate for a given campaign.

D&D 5E Published Adventures You Have Run in 5e

D&D Next probably doesn't count, but I ran the Caves of Chaos and Isle of Dread conversions. Campaign stopped around 7-8th lvl due to real 5e released. The big campaign was that made it from 1st - 20th lvl was: Lost Mines of Phandalin, Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Rise of Tiamat (or whatever...

"Are the Authors of the Dungeon & Dragons Hardcover Adventures Blind to the Plight of DMs?"

There are hundreds of free adventures on dmsguild. How is this niche not currently filled?

Should D&D have more spells like Chromatic Orb ?

I like that a fire themed spellcaster will have significantly different spells from a lightning themed, cold themed, etc. I think effects-based games where the flavor is layered on top of a generic base for spells/powers kind of cheapens what it means to have a theme to a PC. Even worse with...

Spelljammer Is Spelljammer Coming To D&D 5E?

My guess is if there is a Spelljammer adventure, it will not be the Spelljammer setting as we know it from the boxed set, nor would it include the Realms. I guess it would be a multiverse adventure based out of Sigil, with Spelljamming meshed in with the Astral plane as only one arc of the...

"Are the Authors of the Dungeon & Dragons Hardcover Adventures Blind to the Plight of DMs?"

The next time I get off my duff and run a normal campaign instead of the weird co-DM homebrew I've got going (different story), I will probably base it in the western Realms. Strip the time sensitive elements from the APs and just use them as the different things going on in the world...

FLGS Stories- The Good, the Bad, and the Funny

Early 2000s, I was going to a Magic tournament and got into a head on collision. Not wearing a seat belt, I shattered the windshield with my head. Concussions were not quite in the common knowledge at the time; I considered myself just dazed. And bleeding all over my head from a million tiny...

"Are the Authors of the Dungeon & Dragons Hardcover Adventures Blind to the Plight of DMs?"

It always amazes me how often folks are concerned about the accessibility for new gamers. Perhaps the undue taint of shallowness leads me to only be concerned about my home game, but I do admire the concern so many have for openness of the hobby.
