D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I can see the rationale for the decision not to include any one or two page high-level encounters/adventures in the FR:AiF. It just disappoints me. I am probably in a very small minority of readers that it bothers, but I did want to point it out for anyone else with me in that minority if they...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

So basically people can spend $60 on this book and if their party passes level 13 then they just need to do all the work themselves. Got it. Makes sense. I wonder why groups stop at that level? Are we really sure it's because of complexity or are we losing hundreds of groups a year...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I'm going to use the Dalelands as an example then. The level 17-20 guidance is basically one line that says use a Blob of Annihilation. Could you at least devote a paragraph for 4 levels of play? Is that too much to ask?

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

The why spend time and resources to write 13 new Epic Boons? If the only players playing those levels are all homebrewers then don't bother. Those groups will just write feats of their own if they don't like the ones in the PHB 24.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

The thing that really bothers me is the game is written to level 20. The PHB 2024 has dozens of class abilities devoted to play at level 15+ including multiple epic boons that come online at level 19. There are 13 epic boons in the FR:HoF handbook that had to be developed along with several...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

How does City of Arches provide scenarios for level 13-20 play?

Leveling is much faster these days thanks to milestone leveling. Experience point leveling was far slower in BECMI.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

This is also a world book, so what does this basically say about the world? Well, there's nothing really powerful here. Just move on to the next world or make your own.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

Maybe there should just be a basic version of D&D that only goes to level 10-12. The posts I am seeing here make it seem like the game is just basically broken past that point. The PHB could be about half the size and far less intimidating to new players. Also, the classes would have far less...

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I wasn't saying devote the whole product to it. It would probably be about 15-30 pages out of the whole book. I didn't even say most of the adventures should be high level. Just some of them. The book will sell either way because people want the campaign information.

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

I was just looking at chapter 1 of the Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerun book. I noticed they printed 50 short 1-2 page adventures for various places, factions, and regions for Dungeon Masters. That seems really helpful. None of the adventures are over level 13. That's not really...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases Updated Unearthed Arcana for Arcane Subclasses

I don't know if there are rules to convert individual mobs into swarms. Also, space limitation is even more a problem since a 3x3 swarm may lock up to 9 squares, and you can't even knock holes into it like you can by killing individual undead when there are 9 separate mobs.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases Updated Unearthed Arcana for Arcane Subclasses

Even with the mob rules I don't feel it's even close to balanced when a full caster gets 6-12 attacks with a bonus action and a few spell slots.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases Updated Unearthed Arcana for Arcane Subclasses

Another reason I would like to see a simpler version of the Necromancer is that this is one of the base 8 schools for a Wizard. The Undead Commander version should be a separate subclass presented in an appropriately themed world such as Ravenloft. A base version with similar complexity...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases Updated Unearthed Arcana for Arcane Subclasses

Just because a skilled player can navigate the multiple pitfalls of playing this subclass well does not make it a good or even passable design. Far too many players are overconfident in their ability to navigate the issues of running a wargame in the middle of an RPG game. Others just want to...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases Updated Unearthed Arcana for Arcane Subclasses

I understand that is what people wanted, and it fills a niche for those players wishing to create this character style. It's also just possible to make an army of undead with any class or subclass that can cast Animate Dead so this problem is not just all related to the Necromancer subclass...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases Updated Unearthed Arcana for Arcane Subclasses

It looks like the Necromancer will be leaning back in to the squad of undead theme instead of being a wizard specializing in necrotic magic. This may be the most discussed subclass in any session zero because of the possible balance and turn stagnation issues for Necromancers with many...

D&D General 10 Year Anniversary of Curse of Strahd

Just speculation here, but it appears any new Ravenloft campaign book won't be out by Halloween since the October release is a Stranger Things product-not a Ravenloft book. I thought this was odd, but then I looked at my Curse of Strahd book and noticed the printing date. The first printing...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

I haven't played this class yet, but all the features this class gets seem way to strong for the class to remain a full caster. Part of the redesign for a better balanced Necromancer class should be to divorce it from the Wizard class. This one does not do that so I feel the power level will...

D&D 5E (2024) The Undead Army Necromancer is not Designable

I also like the Necromancer class by Mage Hand Press. I feel it does a better job at bringing the Necromancer minion fantasy. I think 5e 2024 should focus more on a dark magic wizard than an Overlord. It is simpler for newer players, and I think there are quite a few veterans that wouldn't...
