Into The Wyrd And Wild Makes The Woods Weird

I used Into the Wyrd and Wild for a hexcrawl game (I used Knave as the ruleset), and it was a blast. One of my group's favorite games. The book is super inspirational and useful.

    Looking for something new

I'm going to suggest Outgunned, by Two Little Mice. Let's see how it meets your criteria. Easy to Learn: Super easy to learn! The core mechanic is add a stat and skill and roll that many d6's, looking for matching faces. The more matching faces you get, the better your success. Story-Focused...

The Walking Dead Universe RPG: An Interview with Nils Hintze

I didn't pledge for the kickstarter because I'm not a huge Walking Dead fan, but I ran a ton of demos of the game for Free League at Pax Unplugged, and I am now a big fan. Very elegant rules that capture the feel of the show. The Walkers are more of an environmental hazard, and the gameplay is...

How Do You Coordinate Your Gaming Sessions?

We just have a set day we play each week, but use a group text to let each other know if anyone can't make the session or if we have to cancel.

Here is the Outgunned PDF: https://preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/449021/Outgunned Here is the website: https://twolittlemice.net/outgunned/ Sorry - just saw the clarification that if the game is out in PDF it doesn't count for 2024, so Outgunned is out of the running.

Suggest some novelty dice stocking stuffers for my kids

Not exactly novelty dice, but Black Oak Workshop makes some cool advent calendars full of dice, and I am a big fan of the size and quality of their dice in general.

Anyone got Into the Wyrd and Wild?

I ran a very fun short hex-crawl campaign using Knave as the ruleset and Wyrd and Wild to generate the setting content. Into the Wyrd and Wild worked great, and we had a very fun time with the game. I have their newish city book (Into the Cess and Citadel), but haven't given it a thorough read...

I'm ready for a new Star Wars RPG

If I were to run a Star Wars game these days, I would use Broken Compass/Outgunned. I'm actually considering doing a "Star Wars Like" using Outgunned using the Rebel Moon setting once it comes out.

RPG Evolution: Friends That Slay Together, Stay Together

My college gaming crew still manages to get together every 1-2 years for a long weekend of gaming, despite the fact that we are scattered from Seattle to Florida to Atlanta and parts beyond. This is the cohort where we were in each others' weddings, around for children being born, divorces...

What is the Best Licensed RPG?

Alien is my favorite licensed RPG. The stress mechanic is so elegant, and really captures the feel of being in a horror movie.

    Still Searching for "That" System

My go-to system these days is Broken Compass/Outgunned (Outgunned is sort of a refinement or second edition of the BC rules). They are definitely survivable. Characters are capable right out of the gate, and the system telegraphs when you are in danger of being taken out pretty clearly, so if...

How Old Were You When You Played Your First TTRPG?

My first RPG was Empire of the Petal Throne, which I got for Christmas in 1976 (I had turned 13 two days earlier). I went to my first convention (Gencon South in Jacksonville, Florida) in march of 1978 and had no idea what this "D&D" game was that everybody was playing.

Drakar och Demoner / Dragonbane - Quick overview

I ran demos of Dragonbane every hour on the hour at Gencon for Free League, and the players seemed to really enjoy the game. Other GMs were running full four hour sessions, and it seemed like folks were enjoying those as well. All in all, I think the game is being well received.

How did you convince your group to try something different?

My current group was explicitly formed to play non-D&D games. I'm the primary GM, and run 90% of our games. My crew is used to me switching up systems for short runs, and we've played probably a dozen systems since we started 3.5 years ago, with our longest run being 6 months (Blades in the...

RPG Print News – Columbia Games, Catalyst Game Labs, and More

With the Adventurer's Journal and the What If book, it really opens up the BC system for use in lots of genres. Excellent, fast playing cinematic system that's easy to teach.
