    Which RPG Are You?

Haha, nice one :) I ended up with Traveller after 3 questions, which is correct ;) The path down medieval fantasy was more interesting, I arrived at some choices I didn't know yet. This is certainly going to show up in my links-of-the-week post

[Open Design] Soldiers of Fortune is here!

Great book I wrote a review for this book on my blog. Super short summary: I really liked the book. I'n not a 4E-player, but still I got a lot from this book for my own campaigns. I can really recommend it.

    Session Length

Attention span, man! I voted for 3 and 4 hours. Usually our sessions last about 3.5 hours. We're playing on friday nights, and everybody is tired of the week's work. I find as a DM that my own attention span as well as that of the group is 3 to 3,5 hours max in these circumstances. Also I...

Views on 2nd ed. Non Weapon Proficiencies.

Mixed feelings We are currently playing 2 2nd edition campaigns after many years of 3rd edition. Our experience is that it takes a lot of adjustment to 2nd edition mechanics. I'm not sure what to think of it. On the one hand I feel the NWP's as inflexible, arbitrary and an odd-duckling within...

What's your favorite RPG that you've never actually played?

Several, including the following: 1. Teenage mutant ninja turtles (have a big stack of books, but unplayed as of yet) 2. D20 modern: i'd love a cyberpunk campaign, but i never was really fond of the cyberpunk2020 rules. (let alone the fact that it almost is 2020) 3. Army ants 2nd edition: we...

    Gaming Families

No children myself, but friends that introduced me to roleplaying, now about 20 years ago, learned to play from their fathers who were a party in the late seventies, early eighties... At least so the story goes :) there might be some revisionist history going on :)

    Human-only campaign

I once played in a medieval campaign in which we only had humans, very low magic, etc. I liked it a lot for a change. I didnt feel limited at all

    Which one, Droid vs iPhone?

A vote for iPhone from me. I have an iPhone and love a lot of features of it. Personally I really like the virtual keyboard. also scrolling, zomming etc. gives a very smooth feel. It's almost as if you can feel the webpages under your fingers. I really, really like the applications on the...

    Snowboard Cross Olympic Finals

The Netherlands won gold on a snowboard event. Funny thing is, it was the first ever (gold? ) medal won in the winter olympics not for speedscating. At least that's what they told on Dutch television.

    Why doesn't 3.5 make SENSE?

Exactly, and back then DnD was hugely popular (within certain cohorts ;)). Back then people also could do math, as they can now, only the perception and perhaps expectations were different than the mentality that you seem to outline. I find the cliche it's more art than science applicable. In...

    Are Hit Points necessary?

Personally, I like the HP mechanism. I like the abstractness of the mechanism, with HPs representing nothing really other than "how long does it take before I drop down". All attempts I have seen that try to make stuff more "realistic" do not have the feel and flair to me as HPs have.
