That's the thing! I grew up and still live in Texas. Plenty of religious people, yes. That doesn't mean they play D&D. Things are definitely different now, though. The concepts and lore have become pervasive throughout culture and, of course, D&D's rise in popularity have helped normalize it.

I've done it for long stretches before while freelancing and do not like it for me, personally. Different reasons, though. I find life becomes monotonous when I don't spend time away from my sanctum. I typically opt to not take advantage of telecommuting at workplaces for these and other reasons.

I've played since the early 80's and have only played with one "person of faith". Weird.

Curious. Where does this information come from? My pre-90s experience consisted of non-gamers and the media hyping up the Satanic Panic.

Is it really a "Greyhawk" book? Sure the town is placed in Greyhawk according to various sources but does Saltmarsh really give guidance on playing in Greyhawk? Background on the races and ethnicities of humanity? Any information about the world's politics? Does it even give much information on...

I love the use of random encounters in old school D&D to shape the setting and act as a resource/time drain. I've used them with 5e where they added an element of danger in early levels. It quickly turned into just more time in combat and bonus XP for the party.

I ran a Swords & Wizardry campaign not too long ago where I allowed the original alchemist, berserker, illusionist and healer from early Strategic Review/Dragon. The berserker was fun (although it really complicated things in S&W). Healer was actually pretty powerful

DCC RPG

People are stuck in their ways. Any deviation from the normal polyhedral set is met with disdain. See reactions to DCC's "funky dice" (i.e. non-standard polyhedrals).

Kinda depressing if you are into anything not D&D 5e or CoC.
