How does your group handle an absent player?

Previous campaign: the PC is presumed to still be there, but “off camera,” and fights were rebalanced so their fair share of monsters are also off-camera. Current campaign is a very silly megadungeon called The Grande Temple of Jing. When players are absent, a slot in the floor opens and their...

I just got to the "Threats" section of book 1. (This is about creating and running persistent threats.) This section is so good. I'm really seeing how I can use this to make a world that's alive and interesting. I particularly loved the examples of threats that . There's so much great...

I just backed Stonetop after hearing good things for the past two months. I'm only on page 82 of the first book, but I'm very impressed! I'd love for you to share your experiences with playing Stonetop. Roll +CHA: on a 10+, pick 2; on a 7-9, pick 1. On a 6-, realize that [+] means "positive...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

I spent the last few days experimenting with my test order. I found some problems, but they were easily fixed. My biggest concern was the end support system. I'm using three 6-inch plates on the short edge, and my concern was that they would lever down under the weight. This picture shows the...

The announcers talk about “points” being forbidden for safety reasons. I assume that means stabby stabby is against the rules.

That’s an interesting idea. I ordered 80/20’s plastic end caps, which should do the job, but I’ll keep that in mind for where the corners join.

Well, this was a surprise. My test order arrived! About a week earlier than expected. I know what I’m doing for Christmas…

I’m still waiting on the aluminum, but gaming mat arrived! This is a custom-cut 4’x6’ mat from Viking Mats. Feels good to play on and looks great. Spendy at $149 but this is the best I could find with a fair amount of searching. Just the mat on the plywood (which is on a folding table for now)...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

I placed my test order today. It’s two legs, one of the short edges of the frame, one cross beam, and assorted hardware and accessories. I’ll be able to use this to test the support system. It takes 1-2 weeks to ship and another ~7 business days in transit, so it’ll be a while before I have...

Easy DIY Gaming Table (no woodworking)

The mitered corners are out. The first quote I got from Teco Technologies (the 80/20 distributor) had the table frame (the four top edges) at $929.16. The reason they gave me is that mitered corners require a "miter connector," and a 1.5"x3" extrusion requires custom machining for that...
