D&D 5E (2024) Ravenloft: The Horrors Within preorder page lists the book's contents

Interesting, I disagree. That being said I have not be overly interested in a lot of the TSR/WotC flavor/lore since the 1e MM, MM2, & Deities & Demigods and BECMI. I have found 4e and 5e wonderfully flavorful!

D&D 5E (2024) Ravenloft: The Horrors Within preorder page lists the book's contents

OK, pre-order content preview convinced me to buy. I really want to compare their Dark Lords to mine: Project Dark Lords

Innsmouth added as new Ravenloft Domain of Dread, bringing Lovecraft to D&D

Also, IIRC (it has been over 2 decades) one of the Chaosium CoC scenarios that takes place in Innsmouth has the fish people worshiping Cthulhu and the old one can even be potential summoned in the adventure (if so the investigators die horribly of course). Heck, here is the description of...

Innsmouth added as new Ravenloft Domain of Dread, bringing Lovecraft to D&D

Paul provided evidence by others (see the wiki snippet) to this interpretation. I have definitely seen the deep ones aligned with Cthulhu worship in other sources and I agree the creature seen in "Dagon" appears to be intended as a species of creature* represented in the monolith not a demigod...

D&D 5E (2024) Ravenloft: The Horrors Within preorder page lists the book's contents

In general I don't like a mechanic similar to the shadow corruption for D&D (not even for Middle Earth). However; I do think it could work in the Domains of Dread. Specifically because the whole point is you are going to a curated plane of doom / horror / terror of some sort. It this, to me...

D&D 5E (2024) Ravenloft: The Horrors Within preorder page lists the book's contents

I'm not Paul, but I sure don't know what people mean when they say "Ravenloft." Do you care to clarify?

D&D General I’m Trying to Love D&D Again—and I’ve Got Some Complaints. Young Grognard posting.

My apologies but your post was too long for me to fully engage with. However, regarding homebrew, it is very much still a D&D thing. In fact, IMO, homebrew and 3PP has exploded with 5e. There is so much available with Kickstarter, DMsGuild, and Reddit. Obviously I don't know how much of it is...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

This was several years ago at this point so the memory is a bit fuzzy and I am the DM. The issue was primarily with the players. However, my main recollection was it was a bit to crunchy with to many parts and pieces. We don't really use or need travel or social interaction rules and the extra...

D&D 5E (2024) DnD 5e designer [Mike Mearls] explains how INDIE RPGs are taking over

Mike, can you, or anyone, sell me on what there is to like about Dragonbane? I remember looking into when it first came out and bought it. But something turned me off it and I have never played it. What is there to like about Dragonbane?

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

Everyone plays differently, but that has not been our experience with 5e. For us it plays like an improved version of 1e. During 1e I had 20+ pages of house rules to make the game how we like to play. For 5e I have 1 page. With that we have no issue craft a game of strategy, investigation...

D&D General What the Melf's Guide to Greyhawk cover might look like

Funny that you mention A5e, I feel that goes farther away from old school D&D than 5e or 5.5e! I have A5e but me and my group felt it was taking us away from our old school playing style so we when back to 5e. Regarding the art, that isn't actually a trend IMO. There are many styles of art in...
