Shrug I don't see much you have offered here to actually make a point. But it seems that you are really more interested in collaborative storytelling. And thats great. But you don't really need SD for that. SD adds mechanics. I think the comparison to 5E is a red herring. If that is really...

and now I'm picking on it. To be clear, a few years ago I would have been highly skeptical that I'd be fired up for any rules light system. Shadowdark is completely awesome. There is so much great to see. The game I'm running (no warlocks) is a blast and a big hit. I just came here hoping...

I think you have taken a generalization regarding SD and stretched it beyond reason. I mean, first, you can simply list the fighter "things" alongside the Warlock "things" and demonstrate the difference. Almazzat is the melee destruction theme. At 5th level a human warlock will have 5 boons. If...

The concept is interesting. Agreed. The mechanics are not. :) But yes, it is simple and clean enough. The trick is, as other have referenced, not making it a power thing.

It could. But what prevents one of my players from running a Fighter dedicated to The Willowman? I get that the fighter wouldn't get extra rolls. But that's pretty thin. Clearly a fully subjective "what is fun" difference there. To me I'd still rather the reward be more aligned with the...

:) That kinda becomes a special thing too. The warlocks special ability is "the campaign will include plot points which engage your character's duty and connection".

Depends. And certainly they don't have to have that. I offered a warlock of Shune has advantage on checks involving history or translations as an example. That COULD be a power gained from Shune. I'd be open to tons of alternatives. I think fixating on advantage on skills misses the point...

Yeah, I repeat for the peanut gallery that I really don't give a flip about "balance" in Shadowdark. Hell, I love me some heavy 3E / PF1E and I've long argued AGAINST worrying about balance too much in those games. So SD is so much further away. And thats great. I do think that the core...

And that works! But by that reasoning on its own the Thief shouldn't have Thievery and the Ranger should have Wayfinder, they should just beg advantage. There is merit to a minimal baseline. And Thievery and Wayfinder don't grind against the spirit of Shadowdark.

I think if someone proposed a cool idea to replace Grit for their fighter concept, you should say yes unless there is a good reason to say no.

100% agree I don't think "balance" is remotely important here. I just don't see a "fun" thing inside the mechanics. I'd like the Warlock player to be able to do something that is special there. Like a warlock of Shune has advantage on checks involving history or translations. Not really a...

best wishes to them! Regarding Shadowdark, does anyone have any thoughts on the Warlock? It seems to be missing something. Reddit seems to think that the GM is supposed to give more Boons, and the "your patron can choose to grant" language could imply that. The core classes and the other...

Pathfinder 2E Skill feats shouldn't give you abilities that normal people have

OK, I still think power attack demonstrates the point in a clear and simple way. I you think others are better, that's fine too. As to the numerical bonus issue, that is a core flaw in PF2E. The math is just so deeply overtuned that nothing can really be expressed. But really, that is a much...

Pathfinder 2E Skill feats shouldn't give you abilities that normal people have

I'm reminded of this same conversation all the way back to 3E. "A wizard can't hit something with his staff with all his might because the Power Attack feat exists and he doesn't have it." I 100% agree with the answer provided that anyone can try anything and the feats just represent the...

Pathfinder 2E I played my first PF2e game this week. Here's why I'm less inclined to play again.

Yeah, I'm still sold on PF1E for the anything goes fantasy superheroes type game. It is the overall best game out, for me. It is also a game with some issues and I've been playing it for 25 years now (counting back to 3e), so, yeah, something new is nice. And I'm 100% behind the idea that...

exactly. I see huge differences between PF2E and 4E. But I also see a heavy reaction to the weak spots in 3.5 in both. Some go in similar directions and others different. But the "family resemblance" is there.

The party champion will HATE this. They are hurting for reactions as it is. :)
