Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

I think if someone proposed a cool idea to replace Grit for their fighter concept, you should say yes unless there is a good reason to say no.
100% ... agreed. (How are there no Subway Takes GIFs available here?)

I have a massive file of homebrewed things for Shadowdark. Swapping in class abilities or whole talent tables is something I am totally into.

Yeah, I repeat for the peanut gallery that I really don't give a flip about "balance" in Shadowdark.
Hell, I love me some heavy 3E / PF1E and I've long argued AGAINST worrying about balance too much in those games. So SD is so much further away. And thats great.

I do think that the core classes give a great guide for what a class should present and there is always something "fun and flavorful" and I think warlocks should have just a little more fun before they die.

And Thievery and Wayfinder don't grind against the spirit of Shadowdark
Why would a warlock get additional advantages on specific "skills" like Thief or Ranger? They are a) not a "skilled" character, they literally can be any normal buffon that met the devil at a crossroad and did a pact. Why would they be skillful like a scholar or thief or ranger that trained for years or even longer? They are the cultish freaks that get powers from a supernatural being.

If a special additional ability I would maybe add something like if you convert a new patron you get something additional... but in the end that probably would also be a boon and doesnt need extra codification.
