"1/2 damage from physical attacks" ... half what?

Phaedrus

First Post
Mummies (et al.) take half damage from physical attacks.

Exactly what gets halved?

Specific example: 18 STR fighter with a +1 great sword. He normally does 2d6+7 damage (+4 Str, +2 Str for 2-hand, +1 for the magic sword).

Against a mummy, what gets cut in half? Just the 2d6? Or the +7 also?

In short, do you halve the strength bonus damage or not?

The attack does 2d6+7 damage. All of it is physical. All of it gets halved.

(edit: Note that in 3.5 you will not ahve to deal with halving anymore, as they will likely go the skeleton route and give a DR which simply can not be overcome ie DR 5/- or something like that.)

Right. And the mummy in 3.5 has "Damage reduction 5/--" according to the preview on WotC's site.

Roll the damage, total it with all bonuses. Then half it (minimum of 1 point of damage for a sucessfull attack).
