1 charisma

A good example of super low charisma in my mind would be the character Milton from Office Space. So comletely walked over and stepped one, course it eventually makes him snap, but he did warn them all the time.

This could be an interesting character, questing for something to make him noticed and respected. Or ignored by the party all the time and eventually doing something drastic(DM approval or asssistance would help though).

The PHB makes a point of equating low CHA with low WIS, and vice versa, but it does make a point of calling a creature with no WIS "an object, not a creature."
Check the Monster Manual definitions of ability scores. It notes "any creature that can tell the difference between itself and things that are not itself has at least one point of Charisma. A creature with no Charisma score also has no Wisdom score, and vice-versa" (paraphrased, as IDHTBIFOM). That looks like a pretty direct statement that no Charisma = object, not creature.

P.S. Nih!

Of course, Milton also burned down the building. Remember that the next time you take Mr.No-Charisma's Swingline (tm).

I have a character with really low cha. In all role playing scenarios he is ignored, execpt when he gets frustrated and lashes out violently. Then he is attacked by everyone who can attack. (for some reason these NPCs are all level 20, go figure). If he killed someone he is given the stiffest punishment. When he escapes everybody forgets about him.

In combat situations, he is always the primary target. i.e. when "monsters" have a choice he gets attacked.
All ranged weapons initially target him.

My two cents would be to ask why does the party allow him to come along. Even with a relative in the party (as was mentioned earlier) I see this guy being ditched at every turn if he's annoying or forgotten if he's a cipher or sacrificed (oh look the Elder Fire Elemental is coming and Mr. 1 Cha is still in the pit. Leave him it's not worth risking our lives) Personally I would be tempted to make him ditch the character and create a new one (and I realize this sounds harsh) because by the very nature of an adventuring party there has to be some social interaction, and any social interaction is impossible with this guy.

I would make him roll a d20 every time he wants to say anthing. If he fails, the other person justignores him.

seriously, the character is in a world of hurt. one poison tipped arrow will take him into a comatose state, and a coup de grace... dead...

having stats from 13-16 is nothign to spit on. I think those are the best stats- well rounded and able to do everything. A couple magic items in the future and you are set- a cuople ability boost by leveling up and you are made...

to explain it, I would just ay that he stutters so horribly that no one can understand him, or that he speaks like the brother who pierced his tongue in "Ratrace".

Unles splaying a barbarian, I would always give my char at east a 10 on cha. that ensures that I can speak my mind and swap ideas and make my stadegies heard... He has not way of doing that

I would consider that low a CHA to be a similar condition to autism. (In agreement with the previous mention of Rain Man.) An autistic is not necessarily unintelligent--there are even autistic savant types. But autistics simply cannot communicate in ways that are understandable to anybody who has not spent alot of time with them, such as a mentor or close relative. For someone in that condition to live any sort of functional life because they would not have the social skills to enable them to learn complex things like a class. So I don't think that kind of character could have class levels or be an adventurer at all.

But allowing it, I would have him only be able to communicate with the relative in the party and still only to a limited degree. I don't think a character with low CHA goes unnoticed. I think they are likely to be the object of ridicule. Who's the kid who gets teased in school? The one who doesn't have the social skils to keep up with everyone else.

My 2cp.

I've been thinking about the autism suggestion and I like it. While there are many varied forms of autism, its severst forms make it incredibly hard for the person to relate to the world around them. And more importantly, it makes it hard for others to relate to that person. A person with a 1 charisma, I think would fall into that category. Plus, many of those with autism are intelligent and skilled people in various ways.

Perhaps, this character's older brother is in the adventuring party. He brings his younger brother with him because of his brother's savant abilities and he feels the need to protect him.

I don't think he should get a cohort. he chose to lower his cha- and then a race that lowered it some more... so you should play the game as with anyone else.

But shouldn't natural selection have weeded out these chars? i mean someone with that low a cha- unles stehy had a caretaker would not survive in the real world- much less a brutal medieval world of DND...

and he wants to go adventuring? seeking out trouble? my gosh...

Oh, I didn't mean creating cohort. I was thinking along the lines of one of the PCs being this character's brother. Sorry about that.
