1 encounter + rest + 1 encounter = 2 AP?

Nods same here. In fact the whole idea of gaining a AP from a Milestone reminds me of the Milestone system from Promethean: The Created which is essentially up to the ST to decide when the character (player) has gone through a signifigant enough Milestone (in this case they gain Vitriol to gain Azoth, Bestowments, Transmutations or Humanity, or to help when they try to become human).

It is one of the most important parts of Promethean so has almost a whole chapter devoted to how STs should create good Milestones, the impact on the story, etc.

While Milestones obviously won't have the same-level of interest/sophistication in D&D since it is not a key concept. I would like to see some stuff in the DMG about how we can use D&D Milestones in various ways beyond AP after two encounters.

There are two slightly different interpretations.

1) Get up in the morning with 1 AP. Go and do a couple of encounters (with or without short rest) and get another AP. So if you did just one, did a long rest, and then did a second one, no bonus ap.

2) Get up in the morning with 1 AP. Do a non milestone encounter and then a milestone encouner that gives you another AP (with or without short rest). In this case, if you stopped after the first, did the long rest, and then did the second, you get the second AP right away.

So it really depends on what a "milestone" is.

Agreed! This would be a nice way to reward flourish and roleplay during combat and within non-combat situations. Instead of giving bonus experience, giving Action Points as a game mechanic-related reward would be excellent.

Houseruled!

I hope there are some additional mechanics that use APs in a way we haven't seen yet, otherwise I'm just houseuling APs to be one per encounter without worrying about accumulating or resetting them.

Since they can only use 1 per fight, I see little problem with them "doubling up".
I just want to point out that this is only with the information we currently have in front of us. I'm gonna be really surprised if there aren't a whole stack of abilities that let you spend more action points per encounter, and that let you use action points to do other things.

They haven't said yes or no to this, but they have hinted that AP will do more than another action.
