10 Must Read Batman Books

I have to say that "A Death in the Family" is the furthest thing from a must-read. It's a steaming pile of drek, as far as the story goes. Not because the story killed Jason Todd - far from it. It's just a poorly written, not particularly logical story.

All that anyone needs to know is that Jason Todd was killed by the Joker at some point. The story where it takes place...blech.

I'm also not sure I'd call All-Star a must-read...but I suppose it gets referenced enough that anyone interested in Batman should see what all the hub-bub is about. Sadly.

I'm pleased to see a Gotham Central story made the list, though. It was a fantastic series and one of the best Bat-related books in a long, long time. Good to see it getting some of the respect it deserves - and the Joker story in particular.

A Death In The Family was... okay. Jim Aparo's art is nice to look at, and the Joker's new job at the end would sure stir up trouble these days...

All-Star Batman? That isn't a must-read, it's a must-recycle. It'd be far better to read Gotham by Gaslight.

Agreed with the above posters - neither Death in the Family or All-Star should be on the list. What belongs on the list and is missing is Batman:Strange Apparitions, which collects the excellent Marshall Rogers run on the book. Some of the best Batman stories ever printed.

One of my fave Bats story is actually a Sups story: Superman: Red Son. I love any Bat tale where Bat gets the one-up on that alien freakshow. :)

I also like the hat.

Agreed with above. I would swap out The Long Halloween for All-Star. The fact that Long Halloween was omitted and All-Star made this list at all shows how little the author really knows about Batman.
I would also give an honorable mention to Santa Claus: Wanted Dead or Alive.
