D&D 5E 101 campaign premises

In a couple sentences what is the basic premise of your current campaign or campaign that you fondly remember... It's a chance to brag and offer inspiration to other DMs!

1. Ten dangerous criminals have escaped from prison. The PCs each have a personal connection to one of the escapees and therefore they were organized by the government as a task force to find them quickly and quietly.

It won't help to list the two campaigns I'm playing in currently since they're both Paizo Adventure Paths, :)

However, some of the campaigns I've run independently in the past include:

--A bunch of rising stars in a major city begin working for a spymaster whose job is to keep the city safe from hidden threats, and stumble across a secret plot to assassinate the higest city official and frame a competing family for his murder

--a bunch of old war veteran buddies open a detective agency together, and uncover a plot by a nihilist, traumatized by the war, who seeks a powerful artifact that can end civilization if put into the right place at the wrong time.

-- (this was part two of the above campaign) heroes of renown must seek out a powerful artifact hidden in a hostile wilderness (that happens to be as big as a VW Beetle and too heavy to teleport) and they have to figure out the wagon train of logistics of how to get it back to civilization for safeguarding, while being assaulted by multiple different camps of enemies who want it for their own ends.

- A group of murderous, nomadic adventurers loot and plunder their way across the Known World looking for "the next big score"

6.) The Githyanki turn to the worship of Orcus to unleash an undead plague across the realms ... all to curb the food supply of the Illithid. The eradication of almost all humanity - a mere casualty in a war between extraplanar races. A cross between Walking Dead and Babylon 5's war of the Shadows and Vorlons.

7. The PCs must travel to Sagekeep, there to retrieve the mistress of a close friend and confidant to the reigning monarch, without revealing her identity. In the catacombs below, they are confronted with a murder mystery that demands their immediate attention: the corpse of one of the PCs, who died in the not too distant future, and clues that implicate the mistress in the PC's murder. I modeled Sagekeep after the monastery library depicted in the novel "The Name of the Rose."

8. - The party was killed at low level by a Medusa and now must do her bidding, as animated stone statues, to gain their freedom.

9. You have been convicted of one of the Seven Deadly sins, branded, and sentenced to Hell to writhe in eternity. As you await your sentencing, you are suddenly set free. Now escape. Who set you free? Why would they do that? Do you owe them something? Were you guilty of your sin, or were you framed? Do you want to return for vengeance...or to escape punishment...or to wreak havoc...or to atone?

11. The PCs live in a village caught between an expanding human empire and tribes of big, angry giants. Pick a side or run, but don't get trampled in the process.

12. Couple of street girls that pc's used as tables for snorting blow are now murdered. Pc's need to find out who took their stash and find new tables to snort blow from.
