101 Exciting Fight Locations

On the back of a roc in flight.

In the kitchen area of a large inn.

In an abandoned iron mine, where the ore has all somehow become strongly magnetized. ("I attack with my greataxe." "Ok, roll a strength check, DC 20. If you fail, your axe becomes stuck to the wall behind you.")

In an alchemy lab. ("I pick up the nearest vial and throw it at her." "Alright, the vial smashes against her skin, and her hair seems to grow and come alive and is reaching out to attack you.")

In a 10' x 10' room with frost giants.

...Or not.

Actually, Dungeon #100 had an adventure called "Beast of Burden" that involved an army of gnolls in towers being carted around on the back of a colossal creature, that I thought was very cool. Sorta like a kaiju mumakil. I can imagine lots of cool "swinging on ropes from tower to tower, getting bashed by passing treetops" type action...

I'm hopefully using that adventure in the future, but I'm changing the Colossal magical beast to an advanced siege crab, and the gnolls to kuo-toa.

Atop a pile of floating logs in a lumber pond
On a narrow crumbling ledge, such as a ruined castle parapet

On the slip face of a gigantic sand dune
In a sandstorm

In the midst of a tightly packed crowd
Inside an functioning windmill
On the sloping rooftops of a block of builidings
In the midst of a briar patch
In a dense ticket of young pine trees.
In a maze of hedge rows.
In a cornfield.
In a meadow valley that is on fire
At the bottom of a ravine when the attackers are above you
From the top of a ravine when the enemy is below
In a cave, on a giant slippery flowstone
In a cave, on a large pile of loose breakdown in a large dome
In a cave in which the passage is 80% or more filled with water
In the splash zone of a large waterfall
In the river above a large waterfall
On weathered rocks, in the splash zone of an ocean
In the treetops of a giant tree
In a narrow space during a flash flood

I just finished prepping this adventure today! What a coincidence. I've been waiting to run it since I read it last year. It looks like it would be a really interesting location to adventure :p

Inside a slowly collapsing tower.

I had PCs fight a modified Quaotl(sp) whilst a coral Makatea was collpasing inwardly due to the holes made by 'giant Worms'

I've also had PCs fight amidst a Bronotsaurus stampede

and another time they were caught in a whirlpool

The basement of a large tower with about an inch of water on the floor, except for the ten foot pit in the middle, which is full. There are various trap doors in the ceiling that open up to rain down giant centipedes, rocks, arrows and raging goblin barbarians. There is a spiral stair leading to the ground floor flooded by a constant stream of enemies, barrels or giant bowling balls. (Best encounter I ever ran)

On the top of a massive dragon skeleton half-submerged in a bubbling tar pit. Every time someone jumps on or moves too fast, it sinks just a little bit...

The hallway of haunted mansion, with the tentacles of displacer beasts bursting through the rotting wooden walls.

Atop two chandeliers swinging precariously above a decadent ball.

Chasing someone across a muddy graveyard while undead hands reach up through the earth to grab you and minions jump out from behind tombstones and trees.

A boat caught on a rock at the edge of a roaring waterfall. Don't tip it too much one way, or everybody's fish food.

Ewok-styled village, complete with rope swings and angry little people who are none too happy to have people using thier town as a battleground.

The branches of ancient pine trees, while a massive avalanche roars by below. Watch where you throw that fireball, man.

In an orc fighting pit against an obviously lesser warrior and an obviously unfavorable crowd.

On horseback in a canyon, ahead of a large stampede.

A melting ice field, with broken chunks of ice rocking back and forth in the cold water.

Against an animated armory.

On the inside of a half destroyed tower being re-built. Walls, platforms, scaffolding, ropes, long, long distances to be pushed off.

Nothing better than the duel with the bad dude on the flat, open tower roof. Over the crenelations or somewhat. Especially if he has, for instance, a dragon. After fighting, falling, swinging and dancing all the way up. Perhaps theres the Plot Device of Destruction up there or something.

This can be continued in scales of coolness by doing a modern game where a fellow with a helicopter and a machine gun is going for you on top of said tower. Or perhaps a harrier.

To chase you all the way back down again as he blasts at you from holes in the sides of the building. Or just through the sides of the building, causing it to topple.

A granary tho it'd be similar to a clock tower or windmill

An auto factory / chop shop or something like a steamjack / warforged / etc foundry

A chemistry (alchemy) lab like in the Jackie Chan movie where he fights Benny the Jet

An antique shop or magic shop where you don't want to break anything either because its priceless or could cause an explosion or set off traps

On top or inside of a water wheel that's rolling across the countryside

Office building / 'cube farm'

House of Blue Leaves teahouse or any teahouse for that matter
