D&D 5E (2014) 15 Petty Reasons I Won't Buy 5e

This whole thread is a series of people being sarcastic, people not getting that, getting sarcastic responses in return, and non-sarcastic replies to THOSE replies. It's a cascading mess of hilarity.

10) I am not going to buy 5e because, even though it looks like a game I would love, I don't like one of the authors of the game. Because he once said something I really don't like, and I took it personal.

Depending on what was said, I wouldn't always consider this petty. There's one race-baiting game developer I've encountered and I'll never knowingly buy anything worked on by them no matter what the game.

I'm not going to buy 5e because I can download it for free.

Well, some of it. Okay, just the Basic game with no options. I'm not going to buy that. I'll just buy the extra bits to get the whole PHB. But I'm not buying the pages out of the PHB that are the same as the free download. Even if the same pages are different.

And if I buy the adventures, I'll only be buying them to play with for fun. I won't be buying them for serious. So it doesn't really count as buying them.

...

7) I am not going to buy 5e because, though it looks like a game I would love, they are not releasing it under the electronic tools that exist for a prior version of the game, and I really wanted access to two different versions of D&D for the price of one, at no extra charge for the new edition.

Ooh, don't forget "I won't buy 5e because no OGL and because OGL is good for fans there's no possible way OGL is bad for WotC so no OGL means no 5e for me!"

Welcome to ENworld! :p

I'm not going to buy 5e because I can download it for free.
This is actually a great reason! I'll download the free stuff when I someday meet a DM who wants to run 5e. :)

  1. My play group loves their Fate dice and fistfuls of d10s or d6s. If a game features neither fistfuls of dice or Fate dice it's an uphill battle that I will lose.
  2. The game also has the rather unfortunate fate of having Dungeons and Dragons on the cover. No matter how good of a game it is my current group will throw anything that says Dungeons and Dragons back at me. Rule books to the head hurt. Please don't tell them that 13th Age is a derivative of D&D. They are already biased against its lack of fistfuls of dice.
  3. I don't like maps. I hear 5e adventures have lots of maps.
  4. There is no Avenger class. Thus I cannot be a 5venger. I must stick with being a 4venger. 4venger is a better moniker anyway.

There is an Avenger class... it's called making a Paladin and choosing the Oath of Vengeance. You'lll need the PHB though , not Starter/Basic.

But if you need your character sheet to say Avenger, then yeah can't do that in 5e
