17 Magic Rings

The Le Games makes certain that you get a number of options for your spending dollars. This product comes in an onscreen version, a printer friendly onscreen version, and a cut and paste version. Art is fairly simple in terms of utility, most of it looking like it comes from public sources, including some Elmore material. Writing is easy on the eyes with a generous layout. The book has excellent use of bookmarks with each ring being bookmarked.

The product focuses on… yes, magical rings. Rings are broken down in standard format of minor, medium, and major and include in table form item and market price. Tables can be rolled on with either a % dice or a d20.

In the item descriptions, they include the gold cost for the caster, as well as the experience point cost.

Rings include the following:
Familial Bands.
Firebane Ring
Goodberry Band.
Ring of Arrest.
Ring of Concentration
Ring of Courage
Ring of Darksight
Ring of Dwarven Friendship.
Ring of Elven Friendship
Ring of Pacifism
Ring of Precision
Ring of Restoration & Ruin.
Ring of Spell-Theft
Ring of Telepathy
Ring of Warning .
Spectral Ring
Summoner’s Ring

Many of the ring’s abilities are tied to the title. For example, the Ring of Arrest lets you cast the Hold spell three times per day. The Ring of Courage allows the user to help others overcome fear effects with a remove fear effect, while the ring of warning glows with different colors depending on the menace. For example, if within 60 feet of a dragon, it glows with red flames, but if within 60 feet of a lich, those colors will be a spectral black light.

In addition to the rings, there is an appendix with definitions for the various abilities granted by the rings. This includes spells like daylight and hold person. This makes it easy to have all the abilities in one setting without having to flip through different books.

It also includes an ad for P.I.G. counters. These are different than the Fiery Dragon counters as those are flat. These are standing counters, something I prefer, much like the Steve Jackson Games Cardboard Heroes. For those concerned with such things, all game text is open gaming content.

The book brings in what it promises, magic rings. It makes good use of the medium, electronic copy, to provide buyers with options as far as how they want to use the material. If they can improve the art and tighten the layout, this would be a four star product.
