1E Legends & Lore: I have it and I'm very happy!

Yeah, the style and poses for the greek pantheon were interesting but definitely too sketchy.
I also remember Apollo being described as incredibly handsome or something but the picture of him clearly wasn't.

I liked his art a lot, back then. But when i look at it now, I think the proportions are off, his characters are too androgynous and those mullets don't look so good.
Androginous? Proportions off? Are we talking of the same Jeff Dee? His Horus, Osiris and Set are nothing like his Bast or Isis...

I guess this is as good a thread as any to post this since it's kinda relevant.

So, I just got back from the used bookstore today and what did i find?

AD&D 1e:
DMG
PHB
MM
MM2
FF
OA

All in great condition, I got them all together for 10 bucks. Apparently, they were going to be tossed to make room for more crappy romance novels.

It's not obvious at first glance because of the scale but yes, i think the proportions are wrong more often than not. The heads are too small, torsos are too long (Seker and Freyja are the worst offenders). One of Set's calves is larger than his thigh. Osiris and others have canckles and there's something horribly wrong with his right arm.

As for androgyny, I didn't say his males and females looked alike. I just find his women too wiry. Their hands are too large, not to mention of different sizes in Isis' case. She could almost scratch her toes without bending over.

For the dudes, it's something about the faces (their features are too delicate) and the poses. The waists are also too thin. Thor looks like a bearded ballerina. Which reminds me, wasn't that infamous "dwarven woman" also by Dee?

There's a redundency in that sentence. ;)

Note the reference, in the Arthurian Hero section, to Merlin being the son of a human and incubus (a succubus shapechanged into male form). That incubus reference is still canon in my games, today.

The Wee Book Inn? Wow that brings me back. That's where I found my copy of the original Deities & Demigods book... about 20 years ago.
Wee book Inn is a great used book store. There are four locations in Edmonton. I usually check two of them every month. The other two are a bit out of my way, so I don't check them out as often.

The one downtown usually has the best stuff. I was able to get the 2e Forgotten Realms boxed set there for really cheap.

They've had Heroes of Battle for several months now, but I'm just not interested in buying that book. They had Complete Champion and Complete Scoundrel at one point several months ago (at half the listed Canadian price) but they were gone in less than a month. (I didn't have any money at the time, so I couldn't buy them.)

Wee Book Inn usually gets in a lot of D&D books and d20 books, but rarely are they the really good ones. Still, the store is a great place to find the "diamonds in the rough" at really cheap prices, since the staff members usually have no clue how valuable they are (or don't care).
