1st level throwaway gladiators with a twist

That's what I love about these boards. I haven't played in about 8 years since moving house (had to learn Dutch and then find a group first). I can have plenty of ideas, but so much is just out of reach, caught in the mists of time. As soon as I read stuff, it gets unlocked again, but there's a LOT to remember, never mind the whole new edition! Plus, you chaps & chapesses can have ideas and back them up with hard numbers.

Now that I've done two, I'll stop, or I'd end up making 1st-level guys all day ;)

Hook Shunned for his small size, this gnome is looking to prove that he has what it takes to be one of the greatest warriors in the kingdom.

This guy has the ability to just avoid and soak up damage throughout the fight. His AC is high enough to outlast most opponents as he chips away at them with his small warhammer. He isn't fast and is best off not moving much. As long as a medium-sized or larger opponent is nearby, he's always using his Stonefoot Stance.

He should do well in a general melee, but he can also fight a one-on-one duel with his opponent's choice of weapon, thanks to Weapon Aptitude.

Hook - Jed killed his first man at 14 when his parents farm was overrun by bandits/rebel insurgents/goblins. The big lad was always a bit slow, but with the death of his parents he felt driven to join the militia to hunt down the ones responsable. Years later he's still using the only weapon he's ever known - a scythe.

The original idea was to have plain sand. I don't see whythey couldn't wheel in a load of bushes, or pits, or nooses to snag folks or whatever. Still, I'm basically just stuck for funky character classes, equipment choices, weapons etc to have a load of interesting combatants.
