1st time playing Beguiler, advice wanted

First Post
2 important key notes, evil campaign and drum role........its gestalt. I know cheese but player group voted and here we are. No ToB 9 swords, no clerics, although evil campaign, were just thugs, enforcers for bad guy guild, not the undead making worshippers of evil gods type campaign. No dungeons probably very little undead or monsters mostly city/commerce based.

Im making a 6th Beguiler / 5th rogue + 1st fighter next level I want to dip in mindbender for 1 (maybe more?) lvl. I was thinking of going with 2 levels of unseen seer.

Question is mindbender worth it? I know the mind sight feat in this sort of campaign should be a stand out, right? Basically looking for build advice, feats, spells skills etc advice

thanks guys/gals

Your question was more about mindbenders than beguilers. Mindbenders is a psionic class I understand, and psionics is not something everyone uses. For example, I don't, and thus can't answer a mindbender question. I read the post expecting a beguiler question, which I might have been able to answer.

Mindbender is a prestige class for arcane casters in Complete Arcane on page 54, not a psionic class. It does suggest an adaptation for psionics though, so maybe that's where you got things mixed up?

As far as taking more than 1 level in mindbender, the absolute most I'd probably do is 3 since the class does lose out on caster progression. Usually it's only 1 level used for the telepathy ability and thus Mindsight feat.

I'd recommend looking at The Beguiler's Handbook.

You'll likely want to get 7th level in beguiler somewhere for the Advanced Learning gained at that level. Taking it after PrCs means you get access to a higher level spell.

Beguiler handbook, alright, good lead thanks...thats what I was looking for -feats/spells/skill points etc

Mindbender is not a Psi class but can be converted to one apparently. I haven't seen to many prestige classes offer up a suggested conversion like this PC does.

Telepathy is awesome for game play/role play, I had read that many players were not impressed "that much" by this ability. Even power gaming groups can find uses. Our campaign will be a lot of role playing as we are part of, for lack of a better 3.5 vernacular capacity, a DnD based mafia family. Heres a couple of its impactful uses IMO

-Party communication: Having the ability to communicate, plan & coordinate in silent neh unnoticable means is big time awesome. Especially in our mafia campaign this will be used often

-Intimidation, confusion / misdirection / there has to be a DM awarded synergy bonus somewhere

-and it gives access to mindsight which again is awesome given most encounters "hey Bob a Gnome male disguised as a human child of avg intellect is sneaking up behind you, just thought you ought to know"
