2 questions: Combat advantage and cover and concealment

hennebeck

First Post
1. Flanking gives the two allies that are flanking combat advantage.
Do attackers who are say using range from a distance also gain combat
advantage against that same foe? The only rule I see that may answer
this is the condition: prone on page 13. " You grant CA to enemies
making melee attacks against you. " If ranged attackers didn't get CA,
they wouldn't need to add the qualifier. Yes?

2. What are the rules for cover and conceal? And has anyone seen any
mention in KotS about them? The first combat has enemies trying to
gain and maintain cover & Concealment but I can't find anything that
defines them.

1. [edit] misread your first post. Not having KotS I'll just stop writing...

2. I don't have KotS, but in another thread somebody mentioned it is in a sidebar in the module. I seem to recall it granting a +2 AC bonus, but don't count on that being correct.

Flanking requires you to be adjacent.

They're in the attack modifiers table on page 11.

1. I know flanking does.
But, can you use the combat advantage from that creature that is being flanked as a 3rd person to get the +2?

2. The table still doesn't tell you what concealment or cover are.
It gives a bonus for superior cover even. And no mention of that anywhere else in the 80 page book.

Page 49 of the adventure booklet: "Line of Sight, Line of Effect".

There's a bunch of rules hidden away like this so I would advise reading the whole thing a couple times before trying to run it.

I understand your other question but I don't know the answer, sorry.

No. The last sentence of the Flanking section says, "You have combat advantage against an enemy you flank". It doesn't matter if another pair of people are flanking the creature, you have to be flanking it, which means you have to be adjacent.

Ok.
1. Answered. Thanks.

2. Still don't have a definition for concealment and cover. LOS and LOE, got it. But nothing, that I can find, defines how you get concealment of cover.

Cover: Protection from things such as a low wall, a tree, etc.
* -2 to attack
* granted vs. Area and Close if there is an obstruction between the origin square and the target
* effects reach made through such terrain
* Ranged firing into melee - other enemies count as cover for enemy targets (allies do not)

Superior Cover: Protection from major terrain advantage like a window, arrow slit, etc.
* -5 to attack

Concealment: Granted when you cant clearly see your target (they are Obscured) such as Dimly Light, Smoke, Foliage, etc.
* -2 to attack
* applies only to melee and ranged attacks (not area or close)

Total Concealment: You cant see the foe (i.e. invisibility).
* -5 attack
* applies only to melee and ranged attacks (not area or close)

Hope that answers the question.
