Multi-class and 2 weapon fighting:

I'm a 10th level Rogue and a 10th level Assassin, the Rogue at 10th level has a base attack of +7, +2, the Assassin has a base attack of +7.. according to the PHB (p. 59) Multiclass characters should add these BAB values together - giving me +14, +2.. it goes on to say that i should consult table 3-1 to seee if i gained any add'l attacks (like the example on p.59).. at +14 i gain a +9 second attack, and a +4 third attack... now for the tricky part...
I have taken the feats Two Weapon Fighting, and Improved 2 Weapon fighting.. which according to the table on p.160 (8-10) i only get a -2 penalty on each attack (with TWF feat).. what does the Improved TWF feat grant me?

if my math is right.. my current BAB for my multiclass Rogue/Assassin, using 2 short swords, and taking TWF and Improved TWF is (for each hand) +12, +7, +2 (reflecting a -2 penalty for light weapons)

what does Improved TWF get me?

thanks for the help.

If your BAB is +14, then you have interative attacks as well. It would look like this:

+14/+9/+4 (all with primary hand)

If you mix TWF and ITWF into the mix, it looks like this:

+12/+7/+2 (primary hand)
+12 (off hand TWF)
+7 (off hand ITWF)

That is five attacks, when using a full attack action.

Good gaming!

What does the -10 pertain to in ITWF??
I am confused on this issue as well

There is no -10 for ITWF... There is a -5 which applies to your highest BAB (+14) in order to get that extra attack.

Greater TWF has a -10, which again applies to your highest BAB in order to get yet another extra attack.

So if you had TWF, ITWF and GTWF your attacks would look like

+12/+7/+2 (primary)
+12 (off hand from TWF)
+7 (off hand from ITWF)... calculation: BAB +14 (-2 from TWF and -5 ITWF = +7)
+2 (off hand from GTWF)... calculation: BAB +14 (-2 from TWF and -10 GTWF = +2)

A little off topic but you may want to look at the oversized two-weapon fighting feat, from the Complete Warrior. It allows you to use any one-handed weapon you can use as a light weapon for two-weapon fighting.

So you could have two one-handed weapons instead of a one-handed weapon and a light weapon.

Really, ignore the multiple numbers when you're multiclassing... you just add their base attack bonuses together (in this case +7 and +7) and get your total base attack bonus (BAB) - 14. Then, to determine multiple attacks, you start subtracting five... +9 for your second attack, +4 for your third. You can't subtract 5 again without going to zero or below, so that's it.

Now, add in the two weapon fighting stuff - first, when you attack with a weapon in your off hand, you get an extra attack at your highest base attack bonus (+14). You also get penalties to all attacks you make (with either hand).... if you're using a light weapon in your off hand and have the Two Weapon Fighting Feat (which pretty much everyone who ever uses two weapon fighting does) then it's -2 to all attacks.

So, that makes your main attacks (as determined above, taking into consideration the -2 penalty on all attacks): +12, +7, +2.

All improved two weapon fight and greater two weapon fighting do is allow you to get those extra attacks with your offhand. In general, they'll be the same as your main attacks.

So, with just two weapon fighting, you would get a +12 offhand attack. Improved Two Weapon Fighting adds another attack at +7, and Greater Two Weapon Fighting adds a third attack at +2.

The way the feats are worded is a little wacky, since they're basically just mimicking the way multiple attacks work normally for your main hand (at -5 for the second attack, -10 for the third, and -15 for fourth).

Considering his classes, I would be surprised... two rapiers?
