Now in its third year, the Bards and Sages Writing Contest strives to encourage writers to experiment with speculative fiction. As mainstream publishers move more and more toward a "reality TV" approach to publishing, we feel it is vital to provide a positive, alternative outlet for creative writers. We also feel a responsibility to give back to the community, which is why each year's contest also promotes a worthwhile non-profit organization. Past non-profits have included the International Women's Writing Guild and the Red Cross.
This year, we are pleased to put our support behind the Speculative Literature Foundation, an IRS recognized 501(c)3 non-profit committed to supporting the growth of speculative fiction. All prize winners and honorable mentions will receive a free one-year membership to this organization as part of their prize packages.
We will award a $500 U.S. Saving bond for 1st place, a $200 U.S. Savings bond for 2nd place, and a $50 U.S. Savings bond for 3rd place. All three winners will also be published together in a collection, and receive royalty payments for sales of the finished work. Please review the submission guidelines carefully before submitting.
