2008 Judge Selection Begins

I've entertained thoughts of being a judge, but I always get caught up with that little proviso that you can't have worked in the RPG industry for the previous year. That pretty much always disqualifies me.

At least I'll have something to look forward to if my RPG writing "career" falls through. ;)

I forgot about that little proviso.

Dextra, I may possibly have an article appearing in an upcoming issue of Kobold Quarterly. Would this make me ineligible to apply for an Ennies Judge position?

Not an official answer, since I'm only across the table from her, but I read your post and she said Yes. Yes it would render you ineligible.

Thanks for that HellHound.

That puts me in an interesting quandry. Do I go for the chance of possibly seeing my name in a gaming product for the first time or do I roll the dice with judge position. Both are enticing, but which one to go for? Hmmmmm.......

While I'm far removed, I have been paying a fair bit of attention and would like to share two observations that may help your chances:

1. When voting opens mobolize your local roleplaying community. Post to mailing lists, stop by the local forum, and call up your buddies. It's not like there's anything sinister about it, the ENnies are meant to be an inclusive award and making people who like you well aware of it helps everyone. Especially you ;)

2. When you write up your biographical information for the site be aware that you're writing a campaign message. Many people are going to hit the ENnies voting booth with a couple of people in mind, but they'll end up voting for others based solely on those entries. It's your best chance to convince people you don't know to vote for you, so take good advantage of it.

I'd be happy to second you! :)

Thanks! It's appreciated.

And I agree with what C.W. Richeson says above, especially the second part. There were question threads on several boards that most of the candidates participated in, but what portion of the voters actually read through all of them? The headshot and bio probably got skipped by several as well, but at least those were in the same place as the voting.
