D&D 5E 2020 Release Speculation Thread

I wouldn't say it's impossible, but I think if WotC want their alternative race rules to be viewed as a core rules they wouldn't want to stick any setting related labels on it.

I can see them framing it as both. A Planescape theme can be tied into how diverse the multiverse is and therefore how diverse player characters can be. That would have the side effect of making Planescape an integral part of the core game, but I can live with that.

X2 with Spelljammer and Planescape sections would be an auto-buy. D&D 5e now has enough campaign settings to justify these two travel modes between them.

And there is plenty of core rules content to fit in to make fluff padding unnecessary.

I think WotC doesn't want there to be any difference between products that advance their IP development and "core rules."

I'm going for the opposite view myself - I didn't think there was much chance of a planescape book this year, but I'm changing my mind. Vistani as plane-hoppers would fit, and the different race options could be a sign that in different planes, different races have different abilities.

We have only one example outside of the PHB of books that have both Race and Class rules...Setting books.

There already are differences - no elves and dwarves in Theros, an extra ability for first level characters etc...

Well, sure, that's how add-ons work, they bring something different.

Hence PHB2.

WotC has been very clear that the PHB2 was a mistake that they have no intention of ever repeating. Just in terms of content, you yourself suggest a maybe 40% rate for the UA material to the final book: that brings the crunch down to SCAG levels, hardly PHB2 territory.

Pluss reprints (with updates) of pretty much everything portable from every setting book.

Some players like new base classes, like wearing different clothes to mark they are in their own fashion style as urban tribe. But after to add more things to this new classes if harder, worse if they are classes with special game mechanics (psionic, incarnum, vestige pact, martial adepts...).

* Will be the blood hunter class in a future "Heroes of Horror"(Ravenloft/Innistrad/Screampunk)?

* I am afraid some titles about old line only will return after the videogame, or maybe some media production (movie or teleserie).
