D&D (2024) 2024 PHB Background discussion

Nonsense. The absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. The fact that the Sailor wasn't an example background in this document doesn't mean that it won't be one in the 2024 PHB.

Sailors can sail boats, and making a Custom Sailor Background allows you to take Sea Vehicle Proficiency.

I'm just saying.

I'd give Sailors Sea Vehicle Profieciency before Navigator tool proficency.

With 5e as an example, we can easily realizes that designers can forget to add basic stuff if no one reminds them.

BIFTs were not well-designed. That's all it really acknowledges. Anything more than that is conjecture.

I'm pretty sure that it will be replaced with something that achieves its goals while taking less room (both in the books and on the character sheets).

Probably I'd also add 2 proficiencies or 2 languages back in.

As far as I'm concerned, "make your own background or pick any of the following examples to use or modify" seems like the right way of doing it.

I think they should word the examples with stuff like “suggested skills” and “suggested feat”, to drive home that these are only examples and easy picks.

Of course they can. They just apperently don’t need a tool proficiency to do it, or perhaps navigators tools covers it, or whatever else it might be.
