2025 Character Creation Challenge & More

Turgenev

Legend
I'm starting late but I plan on catching up before the end of the month. ;) My first character is for the Red Dwarf RPG. Here's the basic premise of my "would-be" Red Dwarf campaign.

Day 1:

Red-Dwarf-SOS2.jpg

Campaign Premise: The campaign would be an alternate reality Red Dwarf. I'm aiming for a Cheech and Chong meets the Odd Couple with a touch of Planets of the Apes/Kamandi the Last Boy (the evolved pets species) & the Star Lost (spaceship focus) vibe.

Background: Due to the Ion Storm, Holly lost permanent control of certain decks of the ship. Control of those decks had been locked behind localized black box routines on each affected deck. It would take him just under a million years to finally have the scutters to hard-wire his circuits to those decks to discover the crews' illegal pet populations had thrive on these sealed decks. He also discovered that each Deck had its own localized "Holly" that worked together to form the Ring of Hollies. Each Holly within the Ring have their own strange quirks and eccentricities. These sealed decks hold multiple prosperous evolved pet populations.

The Dog Nation - multiple factions of evolved dogs currently united as one (maintenance and religion)
U, V, and W Decks

The Apparel Scions - multiple factions of evolved cats ruled by hereditary clans (clothing/fabric makers and fashion divas)
R, S, and T Decks

The Rodent Entertainment Conglomerate - multiple factions of evolved rats, mice, hamsters, and gerbils (entertainment, acting, producing, managing, organized crime)
K, L, M, and N Decks

The Reptile Zoo - Multiple heat sinks blow heat into this deck. Favoured by various evolved reptilian species - home to the Lizard Liberation League (LLL) (outcasts)
Y and Z Decks

Henri Brunette's space weed grow-op is on deck R (in Prince Amadore de la Cavalla's territory; good relations with between the two)

Crew Quarters - A Deck

The first character is Henri Brunette.

Tim

Day 2: Ghostbusters RPG

Terry Victor is a paranormal obsessed parapsychologist who convinced his old university friends to open a Ghostbusters franchise in Toronto, Canada. Their HQ is at 696b Yonge St. (the property was bought from the previous owners during a liquidation sale).

I'm going old school for the rest of my selection. I'm revisiting some old favourites... Paranoia (1st edition), WFRP* (1st edition), FASA Doctor Who**, and I've left myself a few wildcard spots for other systems. I plan on rotating through the various systems. I have quite a few Ghostbusters and Red Dwarf characters planned (along with the rest).

* Just started running a 1st edition Warhammer Fantasy RPG for my regular 5e group. It's only natural that some of my WFRP ramblings will show up in the challenge. ;)

** It's been awhile since I've updated my FASA Who site: The Space-Time Vortex | FASA Doctor Who RPG Resource Site

Cheers,
Tim

Day 3: Today's character is something a little bit different. I'm currently running a 1st edition Warhammer Fantasy RPG campaign (for my regular 5e group) and I had an idea that I wanted to explore as a NPC. Here's Randolph Carter... scholar, explorer, dreamer. He is meant to add some weirdness to the campaign. He insists that all of the humans in the Old World are actually dreamers and the whole world is an aspect of the Dreamlands. My players think he is nuts. I'm waiting for the chance to kill him off so I can re-introduce him further down the road to my players' confusion.

Cheers,
Tim

For my Call of Cthulhu experienced group (the second of the two groups I'm running games for), the name of Carl Stanford still brings chills and that was over 30 years ago. ;)

Day 4: My next character is for the FASA Doctor Who RPG. My premise for a Doctor Who campaign is as follows. Twelve sentient beings from across space and time have been snatched ("timejacked") from their temporal places of origin to find themselves in No Man's Land – a strange wooded area with a stone building in the centre. The wooded area is surrounded by mysterious mists (those that enter, never come back).

I haven't figured out who the main villain is... yet. It'll come to me as I work on the characters. I'm taking inspiration from the War Games story, but I can see some superficial similarities to the show Lost. ;) I'm calling this campaign, The Timejacked.

The first character is Carl Simons who is a Victorian upper story cracksman (Victorian slang for a burglar who specializes in breaking in to buildings and safes that are on the second level and up).

Tim

Day 5: For this character, I'm revisiting one of my box sets pulled off the shelf. This time it's Paranoia RPG (1st edition).

Introducing Lest-R-SOL-1*. He's a new troubleshooter from Alpha Complex. He is a member of the Protection, Logistics, and Commissary service group. While he hunts traitors to the Computer, especially mutants, psychics, and members of Secret Societies. Lest has the magnetosense mutation and he is a member of the PURGE (Omega Dawn) Secret Society. Lest risks execution by secretly prepping and cooking his own food. All he wants to be is a chef, not an assassin for the Computer. Long live the Computer!

* For those new to Paranoia, a character name breaks down as following: (short name) + (letter representing one's security clearance; in this case "R" for Red) + (three letter code referring to the residential unit) + (one digit number representing the clone identity; in this case since it is the first clone out of the batch; max is six per character). I went with SOL for the residential unit because like all Paranoia characters, eventually he will be naughty word out of luck.

I like the Master or the Weeping Angels for this (though honestly the WA fit the vibe, not so sure on the lore.)
