You guys really shouldn't waste any time with the defenders outside... it's only 3 more rounds and it takes 2 rounds to even get to the cultists (one move to get to the panel, one move to position oneself to climb down, one move to climb down most of the way, then jump as a free action taking only minor damage hopefully, then another move to get to the ritual site), which leaves just a single round to disrupt or at least delay the ritual (maybe one more for those with awesome ranged attacks). And that's if we go in now!

Also, the panel is a choking point, we cannot go through it simultaneously because of the action it costs to position oneself to climb down, thus blocking the way for others, since the square is occupied for one round then. Just rushing through and jumping down (taking the 2d10 damage and just shrugging it off) would work faster, of course. ;)

I see you've spotted Garrick's plan? Since Leyra had already moved to the nearest panel Garrick ran towards the next panel, missiled the guard at the machine and intends to open the nearby panel and jump. There is a possibility that he might use missiles instead but I haven't checked distance yet.

I forgot to mention a possibility; an acrobatic stunt DC 17 turns the move action to position yourself on the ladder into a free action. Miss by 5 though and you fall down and lose a move action. But hey, you are down.

Plus, you can shoot from the panels.

man this is a lot to catch up on. I'll concentrate on only reading this last battle. So if I get it right we need to make it into those doors and Mirage is waiting till Leyra gets in before he can try. Am I correct? If so I suppose I could blast the zombies again this round, or is there something better for him to do?

Okay, I hate to tell PCs what to do but this is headed for a complete disaster.

The total XP I put in this battle is insane but I gave you substantial tactical advantages that will be squandered if half the team goes down in the room. Half the reason I put the cost of an extra move to get in the ladder is to discourage people from doing it.

You have high ground. Keep it; shoot at the minions and use cover until the tough bad guys are forced to cancel the ritual and come looking for you. Make them pay the movement cost of being stuck in a hole, don't pay it for them!

Leyra has a bow (range 20/40!), Mirage's power have range 10 or even 20 for the daily, the shurikens have range 6/12. There should be no difficulty killing a first minion and gain an extra round to the deadline.

Oh, and the MACHINE IS ON WHEEL!

Please, I don't want to see half the team move down in the hole. Especially not the squishiest half of the team! This would be a massacre, a slow PbP post massacre. Even doing this right, it will be tough once the skull lord starts blasting at you.

---

I guess it's my fault for making an encounter that is so reliant on tactics to get through; Initially one would expect that PbP results in better tactics because you have time to think but I now believe that, in a live game, the interactions between the players yield brainstorming based results that are sorely missing from a PbP.

Oh, and Erekose, welcome back.

Leyra's bow attacks are pretty pathetic, though. ;)

Besides, if everyone would move down (as I at least thought when I posted, that Leyra moves to get in there), there would be no splitting.

Also, AFAIK, we do not know yet, how easy the cultists will be to kill and how many we will have to kill for it to take any effect. Time is extremely short for us. It probably takes more than they need to finish the ritual to even deal with the defenders outside. Not good.

I still think getting down and ignoring the defenders outside is the only reasonable way to do this... :)
