24 - 4e style (closed)

You do see the flying skull. In combat you remain aware of everything that isn't hidden in a 360 around you. Basically, Garrick glanced over his shoulder while he was climbing.

But dude, sneak attack!

You can sneak either the skull lord or the flying skull. All you have to do is drop (free action) to the ground. Then you can move two squares to W8 or S8

W8 : You are out of sight of the flying skull
S8 : You are out of sight of the Skull Lord

Do a stealth check

Use deft strike to pop out 2 square in a a position with LOS and do a sneak attack against the appropriate monster.

you have -2 range vs SKull lord and -2 cover vs Flying skull but combat advantage negates that.

Either way you have a shot at doing more damage while not putting yourself in an akward spot. (.vs the flying skull, I'd throw the dagger instead of the shuriken for the sake of the +1 to hit). I know 2d6 isn't that much more damage than your sly flourish (+ cha), but on average it's 3 hp more (8 more on a crit) and staying back to the wall where your buddy defender is about to arrive is priceless. But you really need the backstabber feat to up your sneak dice to D8 for day 2.

---

I shouldn't advise players so extensively, but you wrote that you were new to rogues and I can't see you go another round without trying to get a sneak attack!

I'm away now till Monday although I will have some internet access. I will try to post as and when I can.

BTW Mal I understand what you mean about the dagger but I get +1 (class) and +1 (magic) range 5/10 with the shuriken I get +2 (magic) range 6/12. Also crit damage from the knife is necrotic - not much good here - not that I ever get crits anyway!

Ah, the devil is in the detail. Yes, in your case the shuriken is flat out better than the dagger for throwing.

Good round, by the way. Lucky damage roll.

The Veteran's Armor has been nerfed as of the last errata. It no longer allows the option to spend an AP to regain a daily power. It only has its properties (+1 defenses and attack wehn using an AP). We're gonna see a sharp decline in veteran's armor, I expect.

Flameskull must go down!

Some thoughts...

If Garrick can manage to hide-sneak attack again, that might just be enough for the Flameskull already. :)

Otherwise, because of the Divine Challenge, it could be a good idea to attack the Skull (Shuriken; Sly Flourish) and then move back into full cover behind one of the columns, so the Skull has to follow first in order to attack, or move away and not attack at all (or take damage for attacking someone else). This would definitely make it impossible to sneak attack, though, and if the Skull moves away, the Divine Challenge will most likely end then.

If not, Barrion and Mirage (if Mirage can see the Flameskull) really should aim at it this round, too, I think.

But really, we have to get it down this round! It's already down to 19 hit points.

Bye
Thanee

That's another fea points off! 1 more good hit should do it. Garrick is now in stealth (I hope) and should be able to jump out on somebody next turn
