When the zombie falls to Mirage's flames, Barrion reappears flanking the last enemy threatening Dagran.

Barrion curses the foe and swings his sword, finally overwhelming him. When the dwarf falls, Barrion hurls himself through space to appear closer to the building. He then approaches the door of the building from which the bolts were coming.

"There was one in here, wasn't there?"

As the opposition drop like dominoes Garrick realises that the buildings must be next target. He had some vague idea that arrows or bolts were being fired from there.

"Come on! Before they catch their breath."

The minute paladin jogs forward, and keeps moving until he has reached the cover of the side of the right hand building.

[sblock=OOC]Garrick takes a double move to U23[/sblock]

Fight is over

Dagran fights off the cold with Leyra's encouragement.

[sblock]At this point, it will take 3 healing surge for Dagran to come back at full health no matter what so the save isn't very important. 19 +48 = 67 ; 24 + 48 = 72 ; max hp = 66

Unless you want to spend just 2 and start next fight at 56/66 or 51/66, then by all mean, make the save. If you fail, you are down to 19 hp but the effect ends. Don't forget +2 from Leyra on the save.[/sblock]

Barrion storms the house but finds no one inside. A cursory search of the house reveals a trapdoor leading to a cramped tunnel, exploration shows that the tunnels connect the house with the barn and then runs south. But by the time Barrion discovers it, the sniper has at least one minute lead.

-''By elimination, the sniper must have been Torbak, the other brother. He's the brain of the two, as demonstrated by the fact that he fled. Not very brotherly either, leaving his sibling to bleed to death like that.'' commented Control through crystal link. ''Any survivor?''

A quick check from Leyra revealed that the tiefling is though SOB. He's still breathing, though badly beaten. Two of the guards are also going to pull through.

-''Okay guys, picking up Torbak would be nice but can wait. Something is wrong here. What the hell were two zombies that powerful doing here? The brothers are shifty but they sure as hell know no necromancy. Give me some answers, people.''

Skill challenge upcoming

Knock yourself out with some RP post in the mean time if you want but hold on declaring actions.

Leyra

[SBLOCK=OOC]No, never spend any healing surges just like that! It's a waste. Two Surges will bring you back to full health with Leyra's help.

Also, I wonder why Dagran had used up 2 Surges during the fight? He only used Second Wind, that's it, or did I miss a healing potion or something like that?[/SBLOCK]

While the others storm off to look for the sniper, Leyra heals Dagran with another healing prayer.

OOC: Bastion of Health on Dagran for 13 + Healing Surge Value (Beacon of Hope still in effect).
The second Surge will bring him to full health then.

After a short rest, Leyra will use Bastion of Health on herself to get back to full health, then make another short rest to regain the power, since we'll surely need it.

“With some luck there might be more of those potions inside, or materials to make them. Might become useful.”

"Answers? I'm not here to get answers, I'm here to kill and be killed. I've kept on the first side of that line so far. Of course, you're probably talking to someone else." Dagran sits down a bit and applies some bandages to his wounds.

"I'll have a quick look round, see what's what here in the house. 'Tis my old speciality after all." Garrisk grins a sheepish grin.

The halfling proceeds to search the house, looking especially for any secret or hidden places.

[sblock=Challenge parameters]
The DC of the challenge is 17 for primary skill and 22 for secondary.

You need 12 successes before 6 failures.

Current Objective : Discover the truth about the smuggler’s intent

Time Limit : Five round

Primary Skills : Perception, Heal

Directive :

Only one success can be accumulated from the Heal skill. Only one person can aid an attempt at this skill at any time it is attempted.

Only one success can be accumulated through the perception skill for each target, but there are 3 valid targets. Any of these checks can benefit from an unlimited number of assistants.[/sblock]

[sblock=Rules]
Action Points can be used to reroll a failed check

I will indicate at least two primary skills for each stage of the challenge but there will always be secret primary skills. Be clever.

As you accumulate success, the objective and the primary skills will change.

For example, in this case, Heal is a primary skill for the purpose of reviving the unconscious Tiefling. Once he is conscious and talking, heal will no longer be a primary skill but it will unlock other skills. I won’t always be this explicit, by the way. Often you’ll need to figure out what I want you to do. And sometime you will figure out a method of achieving the objective I didn’t consider but agree with and I will then pretend that it’s what I meant all along...

Round : Each of the PC act once and then that’s a round.

During a round you can;

1 – Stick your neck out and attempt a skill check that goes toward success or failure. Describe what you are doing. If it makes no sense, it will be disallowed.

2 – Aid someone attempting such a check when appropriate. Describe how you are helping. If it makes no sense, it will be disallowed. Due to the nature of PbP, aid another can be declared after the roll that you want to aid has been rolled. Yes, it can even turn a failure into a success. Remember; Aid another is DC 10 using the same skill as the skill you are aiding.

3 – Attempt a support action : Try something that doesn’t contribute to the success/failure total nor directly aid one person but instead has an influence on the rest of the challenge. Rituals and some powers can be used as well as clever use of skills.

4 – Stand on the sideline and say something witty. Sometime none of the skill check available allows for aid another and you don’t want to risk a failure...

You have 5 rounds, so that’s 30 actions. Obviously enough as long as you don’t make too many aid another check and not enough proper skill checks.

Skill : The stated primary skill check are guaranteed to be at DC 17. Being creative, as long as you can make a plausible explanation of how the skill you want can be used to contribute to the current objective, it can be used. If I agree that it should be a primary skill, it will be DC 17 otherwise it is DC 22. But be careful, such creative thinking can be rewarded or it can sometime lead to automatic failure. (either DM judgement or due to story facts unknown to you at the time).

As a rule of thumb, a PC can only retry a failed skill check if it was a primary skill. Often, another PC can try what you failed, though. i.e. if you failed an Arcana check, you don’t recall the information you were looking for and can’t try again but another PC could do it. But when the objective changes, perhaps you can use the skill again for a different purpose. It is all a matter of context so use common sense.

Also, some clever ideas for a non-orthodox skill check might be redirected by me as a support action, based on my judgement.

Powers : Normally, activating a power to support a skill check doesn't count as an action. Unless of course you want it too!

Also, you still haven't recovered your used powers but you will by the end of the challenge.

Leyra

After she has provided what aid she had to offer to the wounded, Leyra takes a look at their Tiefling captive. “I will see that this one gets back to consciousness. Stand ready for interrogation.”

She then uses her mundane healing knowledge to help the Tiefling recover.

OOC: Heal +13 (19 = success).
