I'm betting GW is going to pounce nad pounce hard perhaps. Then again, maybe not, not so up and up on what Spanish copyright and trademark law is currently.

Yeah, GW does tend to nad pounce hard.

It would be nice if it does get made, but from what I'm reading, doesn't sound like it is officially licensed and is going to die a horrible death.

They can't, not without changing the name. They no longer have the trademark on the name HeroQuest in the US.

It all depends if Moon Design, who are the license holders of the name, linked with their RPG, and Glorantha, where the term was first coined, want to pounce, and ensure they have the option of printing their materials in Spain.

The boardgame was produced while the name rights were spread about and not being protected actively by their creator, Greg Stafford. (A brief history for any curious parties)

Wait, Moon Design could get a reprint going? They own the property? And did you mean to have a link to that short history there?

Thanks!

No, they own the name "Heroquest", not the boardgame design/concept. Its attached to something completely different, their Roleplaying Game System, as well as a fundamental concept in their Fantasy Setting of Glorantha, where the term was first used. http://www.glorantha.com/ http://www.glorantha.com/role-playing/ Take a look.

Of course, maybe they can have a "gentleman's agreement" with Gamezone, I hope a compromise can be reached because It would be nice to have the game available over here in the UK.

Edit: Oh and here's that history I was referring to: http://www.maranci.net/rqpast.htm#HeroQuest

Moon Design looks to have slapped them with a C/D order in regards to the use of the trademarked name Heroquest in the US in order to ensure that their rights to the name of heroquest are protected. Since it's simply to protect the trademark and name (rather than substance more than likely), we'll see where this goes.
