27 Continuous Years - First Character Death

great job, Silver Moon.
Thanks Diaglo, that's high praise coming from you.

For those who are unfamiliar with it, Timemaster was a RPG created and published in the early 1980's by a company named Pacesetter and later sold to a company named 20-40-Orphite. The basis for the game was Poul Anderson's Time Patrol books (which the Timecop movies and televsion series were also based upon). Essentially, there is a 72nd century 'Time Police Force' who monitor history and send teams of agents to fix history when aliens or other rogue time travellers seek to change it. The Playing Character team would typically be extraordinary people plucked from history at the time of their deaths to live on as time police.

This particular module is titled "Clash of Kings" and involves the alien Demorian shapeshifters attempting to prevent the basis of the Arthurian legends by changing time at first his conception, then when he pulls the sword from the stone, then lastly at Camelot during the trail-by-combat to prove Lancelot and Guinevere's innocence. The module's twist is that Merlin is also a rogue time traveller, but from 50 years before the time police were founded, thus the 'original history' in the Time Police computers is actually an already altered one.

I first ran one of the Timemaster modules with this group two years ago, originally meant as just a short silly filler module, and was surprised how well it worked with my group's playing characters and AD&D rules. The players want to continue to get to play 'Time Cop' every year or two, which is fine, as I own a dozen Timemaster modules. What I won't allow them to do is keep the Time Police Time Scooters between these missions, as a continual 'do-over' would change the whole nature of traditional AD&D.

The game was a lot of fun. They decided to go back to just before when the Demorians summonded the dragon and to wait invisibly. The party then attacked, with the high-level magic-user fireballing the area for 70 points. That didn't affect the dragon but did kill the four Demorians, while the druid attacked the remaining Demorian scout, turning the ground beneath him to mud.

Timothy wanted no part of the dragon this week, so used his spells to keep Lancelot from charging forward.

The party's fighter took on the dragon from both sides, with spell support from the magic-user. The druid flew in and used his magical scimitar for the final death blow.

The magic-user then teleported Lancelot immediatley back to Camelot, where he beat Sir Bedivere in combat to prove his innocence.

Mission accomplished, the party used their time scooters to return home, bringing Merlin back with them to join the Time Police.

So, the mission's done. For tomorrow's game we're doing a "Tavern Night", which is a game without a DM where the characters sit around a bar and tell stories. The twist this time is that they'll also be joined by the three Time Police who recruited them, namely Elvis Presley, Babe Ruth and Emelia Earhart.

Interesting. Is there a game element, like somebody gets something for telling the best story / biggest load of minotaur spoor?

Good idea, we've done several of these "Tavern Night" games before but never any prize for the best story. One of my playing characters is the bar owner so I think there will be one this time. Any suggestions?
