2nd Annual Dave Arneson Memorial Gameday: NYC, 3/27

For those who've been following the awesome ludo-archaeology of Arneson's pre-D&D house rules at the OD&D boards, I'm honored to say that aldarron, one of its main co-rediscoverers, will be at the Gameday. (snorri is in France; maybe next year). He'll be bringing some copies of Dragons at Dawn, the older-school-than-the-old-school game he's developed from these researches. We'll be using that (plus house rules, of course) to run my Blackmoor Dungeons, and he'll also have copies for sale.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about here: that's OK, the thread needed a bump anyway because the gameday is happening this Saturday!

I will be passing by and taking pics. 4th Saturday is usually my gameday off. But shucks...seeing EnWorlders in action. I will be there to witness it.:D

It was a pleasure seeing you again, and I'm glad someone more skilled with a camera than me took some shots! If you can pass 'em on to me I'll put together a post at the TARGA website with the video I took, if it turned out OK.

We had upwards of 35 people (according to the daughter of one of the Strat's owners) playing four different games at five different tables. One of the guys in my group had never played a tabletop RPG before - he got interested in D&D from the Penny Arcade and Robot Chicken podcasts, and he took this opportunity to check it out!

You are quiet welcome. Pics are loaded up and link will be sent via PM.

So many editions in one room!

The edition war that erupted about five minutes after those pictures were taken was not recorded for posterity, alas. However, in the interests of fairness I want to go on record as saying that the sweeping victory of my proto-D&D faction should not be taken as proof of the superiority of our edition. It was simply an artifact of the fact that, lacking variable weapon damage or proficiency/training rules, our fists, pencils, and chairs were able to do a full 1d6 while everyone else was hampered by having to treat these as improvised weapons. If they come back at us with polearms and 2-handed swords - and I do recall some remarks to this effect - we must imagine that the outcome will be different.

Seriously, it was indeed awesome to have so many D&D variants coming together to remember one of the founders, and I think it'll be cool to see a similar congregation in the Sagamore Ballroom at Gen Con.
