2nd world war

Also just wanted to mention Godlike - WW2 Supers game. Very smooth system with a nice OGL conversion.

Profantasy has The WW2 Interactive Atlas. If you have Campaign Cartographer, all the maps are editable.

GURPS, specifically GURPS Vehicles. See also GURPS WWII.

Got it. Got it. Got it. Not impressed.

Look at the stats for the Panzer III, they give it a 84 gallon tank and a 12,000 kW battery. But, does it tell you which crewmembers have hatches? Which have periscopes or vision slits or pistol ports? Does it tell you the operational range? Does it tell you that the bow machine gun was removable and included a tripod?

While none of the missing information is crucial, it is certainly more important that the kW of the battery or the "cost" in dollars. Besides, that opens another problem. Are the stats, such as Accel, Decel, Speed or Cargo space the result of careful research or are they just the numbers that came out of the backside of the vehicle construction rules? Who can say?

And very few commercial game (Computer, RPG or table top) let you play their side.

That's probably because very few people want to vicariously emulate the most vile, bloodthirsty, evil, murderous regime or any of its lackeys. Most of us are not of the opinion that fancy uniforms and good marching make up for institutionalized mass murder.

My grand father was a real patriotic french and I remember him telling me how disciplined and impressive were the german soldier when they walked on the Champs Elysee compared with the american. That shocked me and pushed me to read more about the other side.

And, remember, as long as one marches in very straight lines, murdering millions of people can be overlooked.

Well, I'm currently going through the opening stages of something like this.

www.onwar.c om is a good site for maps, tanks and so on. Unfortunately, it doesn't have anything on north africa, which is where I'm setting my campaign. :(.

Those tank stats look nice and realistic.

Also: Godlike rules are good, but vehicles are given the shaft. Hence my research - because whats a WW2 game without a Panzer IV?

Actualy you are talking about the regime and not the solders. Infact many of Hitlers troops considered the Nazis and especially the SS to be the most morally degenerate group of people they have ever had the misfortune of meeting. Also many German Officers were horrified by the Holocost when they came back home from the front.

I find your comment very harsh, 2nd world war was much more than mass murdering 6 millions jews. 40 millions people in total die, 20 millions Russian die most of them because of the stupidity of their leader, nobody talk about that and what about the millions of Chinese that were killed by the japanesse.

They are idiot and good people every where. Most SS soldier and low ranked officer were not even aware of what was happening in the death camp, they were elite soldier brainwashed to fight and die for their country, like most elite soldier and most of the country. About 20% of them were working in the camps, but almost 100% of them were executed at the end of the war. The allied suffered so much against these divisions then they took advantage of being the winner to get a legal and justified (the mass murder) revenge, not better in my opinion than what they did.

My point is that yes, what some German did was atrocious and we should do everything to prevent our childrens to repeat such an horror, but if you look at history you will find thousand of similar example.

My point was that it would be interesting to play the german side without the mass murder issue in your head, like most of the average soldier at the time.

I would like to play a german Wermacht or SS soldier or officer waiting in a bunker on Ohama beach, that just wake up in the morning and notice that the sea is filled with steel. His a veteran who fought under Rommel in egypt and the only thing in his mind is to stay alive and defend his country, his praying every night that his wife and 3 childrens living in Berlin will not die during an Allied Bombing run and cursing silently hitler for the huge mess he started.
I would like to play a normal german soldier without automatically having it stamped with the Mass murderer tag. I am pretty sure a lot of german did very heroic actions, and it would be fun to see it the other way around.

Do you realise that we do that for almost every other army

and as long as one marches dress in grey with an orange and blue flag on the shoulder, the can torture and enslaved as many black people for their own profit, and as long as one marches in very straight lines, led by a Empror they can murder at will any one that believe in Christ. As long as they can defeat their enemy easily with their technology they can abuse their prisoner, putting underwear on their face forcing them to make human naked pyramids, kicking them in the balls and I could add but this would fall in Political discussion.

If I were to follow your advice I wouldn't be playing any military game. War often reveal the true identity of some people, and you can find idiots every where. The higher the idiots his, the worst the results.
