[3.0] Where did it go...?

Recently heard in a gamestore...in the near future...

Son: [color=sky blue]Where did my 3.0 go? I can't find it anywhere...[/color] (sob)

Father: I have some sad news, Son, but it isn't all bad. 3.0 was getting old, you see? There were things about 3.0 that just didn't work anymore. Didn't work all that well since the beginning, to be honest. So your mother and I sent 3.0 upstate, to live on a farm, where he'll have lots of room to run and play. Plenty of fresh air, and other old rules systems to be with. But we got you a 3.5 to play with now. Try it. I think you will like it.

Son: [color=sky blue]I HATE 3.5 and you can't make me like it! Never![/color] (sob)

...several weeks later...

Son: [color=sky blue]Father...?[/color]

Father: Yes, Son?

Son: [color=sky blue]Can I play with 3.5, now...? It looks kinda good...[/color]

Father: Of course you can, Son. Of course you can...

(Cue music. Fade to black.)

I flushed my 3.0 down the toilet when I wasn't looking.

I thought about burying it in the backyard, but I thought it might raise uncomfortable questions I wasn't ready to confront yet.

Bad news, son... the old girl broke her haste when she tried to jump that fence back there.... and her Bard was looking kinda weak, too... He had to put 'er down. I took 'er in a quiet pasture, gave her a few nice d20's to munch on... and... well...

She was a good game, but she just got too long in the tooth. I'm sorry.

I didn't think much of it when I saw the first few reports about people getting the 3.5 books. But then...I opened up my 3.0 DMG to look something up...and it was BLANK! BLANK I tell you! And I could feel the very memory of 3.0 fade from my mind! They said I was mad...they said I had lost touch with reality. "What is this 3.0 he keeps babbling about?" I overhear them say. "There never was a 3.0. Those books he clutches - merely blank notebooks. Such a sad case." But 3.0 did exist! I know it! And I can still play it, if only I could find books that have not gone blank! Perhaps there is still time; perhaps I can write down the original 3.0 rules before they fade into oblivion...quickly, a pen! But they will not let me have a pen! Oh the torture!
