[3.5] Answering the Call

Lars nods. "I see. Thank you for your offer. We have not seen any other adventurers in the area so far, but you have my word as a paladin of Heironeous that I will seek out those who wronged you, if I can find them in town or out here in the wilderness during our treks between the Keep and the caves. If I find those who slew your people, I will confront them and return the mithral blade to you at the clearing if I am able," he assures them. In lilting Celestial, he adds "By the Archplaadin's skin."

The silver-eyed, platinum blonde smiles slightly, then, and asks "Now, may I ask, do you in fact have any wine, ale, or mead to share? We have coins, if your people use gold or silver, but I am afraid we have little of any value besides them."

"Thank you for your offer, we could use some rest. But be warned, we just killed dozen of hobgoblins and one of their clerics so they might use night to search for us."

Taking the horn, Menno nods.
"I'll do my best to find out what happened and to return your sword. There is possibility that it will be fenced away and it might require substantial money to re-acquire it. I wont promise anything, but I will sound the horn one week from now at the latest if I'm able, to tell you of any progress or lack thereof"

Once the camp is set:
"Do we go back into the caves tomorrow? To hit them hard and fast before they organize? I believe there will be more resistance next time around and they will know to be prepared against fire and such. We left plenty of evidence. And if we wait whole day or more they will dig in."

OOC: Menno will try to decipher spells on 'bone scroll'

The fey leader scoffs at hobgoblins.

"If hobgoblins stray into bow range, we'll send them flying back to whatever hole they crawled out of. In the meantime, relax. We don't have much food or drink, but we'll gladly share what we have."

He assigns two of his soldiers to ministrate to the party's needs. The fey provide small skins full of a potent, sweet brew unlike anything the adventurers have ever tasted.

OOC: PCs recover double normal hit points for resting the night. How is Menno going to decipher the scroll? Read magic? Spellcraft?

Sorry for the hold up. Comcast crapped out on me for a few days.

Orinar accepts the fey's offer of food and drink. He smiles as he tries the drink. "Quite good," he says simply, smiling.

Menno too drinks. He tried to engage the leader in talk about his people and his tribe.

"Thank you, we need some time off. It is appreciated. I didn't want to ask earlier since there was potential for insult and combat would ensue. Would you enlighten me as to who are you? I mean what are you? erm...that doesn't sound right...please don't be offended, I never encountered people such as yours and I'm curious...erm..."

Menno sweats, suddenly unconfortable. He started good, but felt himself slipping as he entangled himself more and more...obviously apprehensive now he looks at the leader of fey.

Duhnmair grins at Menno's discomfort.

"We are sprites," he says, "who belong to the Order of Midsummer. We serve our queen Tatiana. Mostly, we stay within her domain, patrolling the borders and so forth, but this violent trespass has urged a more assertive response. And what of you? You appear human, but I sense something else in your blood."

To Menno's earlier question, Lars answers "We'll decide on the morrow. Right now I'm too sore to think about it."

He gladly accepts the fey's offered wine, and wishes only that he could get his hands on more of it to pass the night. Still, he sighs contentedly after quickly downing what he's served, and offers many thanks to the fey. "Delicious! Would that there were more, and that we had some fine brandy or mead to share with it!" he says after his first drink.

The silver-eyed paladin recalls a good drinking song, one of his favorites, and does a fine job singing it as the group rests, eats, and drinks before going to sleep.

Menno relaxes a little at sprite comment.

"Well, I'm human alright. My master told me..."
At this point he shifts slightly in speech pattern as one who learned a lesson by endless repetition.
"...any spontaneous manifestation of magic in humans means that there is being with magical essence somewhere in my genealogical tree however distant. Being of celestial or abyssal origin or powerful magical creature such as dragon. He told me I'm of draconic variety."

Orinar smiles at Menno. "Har! It is good to be of mixed blood!" He flexes one of his mighty thews. "I've got giant in me, so my old dad says!"
