[3.5] Answering the Call

Menno concentrates for few moments focusing on the fallen cleric and then scanning the hallway for magical auras.

"This one was tough. I cannot believe that spiritual weapon didn't hit me. And that spell that I miscast..." Menno shakes his head..."I'm glad it is ended for now."

"As for magic... This thing(s) are magical."

Menno indicates the piece of bone on which magical symbols have been etched. This is the same piece of bone from which the hobgoblin cleric cast a spell which Orinar resisted. Also, in the cleric's pouch, is a potion vial. A sigil is scrawled on its waxy seal.

Orinar shoves the cleric's pouch in his pack, and tosses the piece of bone to Menno. He then takes a close look to see if anyone of the enemies' weapons or armor are of particularly high quality.

OOC: I'll get you a list of valuables later when I have time to go over my notes. Right now, just a quick post while I wait for my Saturday Man-Day group to arrive.

The heroes collect everything that they can carry that looks valuable before exiting the hobgoblins' lair. The sun is low on the horizon. The steep sides of the draw look all the more treacherous in the deep shadows. The strange barrow lies back to the west, perhaps an hour across the rugged terrain. By Orinar's best reckoning, the road leading from Princess Argenta's ruined domains back toward Borderland Keep lies south by southeast. The forest in that direction is thick and full of shadows, but perhaps traveling along the old road will be quicker than retracing the way back through the wilderness.

"We are in no condition to survive another fight at this point," says the Giantsblood, obviously exhausted from the days trials. "I would prefer to get back to the keep as quickly as possible, but I don't like the look of yon forest. I say we return by the same path we took to come here."

"I am still able to toss around fire bursts. That should handle most normal animals. I'm for shorters route if one of you can lead us that way. I could return only if I return to the barrow first. Maybe we can find shelter within the woods and not return to the city until morning."

"It didn't help so much against those monsterous spiders this morning," says Orinar, clapping Menno on the back with a smile. "And at least we know we cleared any threat along our original path."

OOC: I do realize that Menno didn't actually have fiery burst this morning, because it was before Neurotic took over the PC. :)

Sorry about that. I guess Menno has arachnophobia and stood there petrified by fear :)
Or alternately, arachnophilia and he stood there entranced by simple beauty and deadlyness of perfect predators...

"I don't mind returning same way, I just want to be out of goblins reach. So more walking and less talking. Lead the way. And to liven your step, think on all drink and wenches those hands in your sack can buy. You could say that hobbos gave you a hand ushering you to times of plenty."

Menno smiles, but it is somewhat forced this close to actual combat.

Orinar laughs loudly at Menno's joke, as only someone as large as the half-giant could. Then, he gives his friend a nod, and leads the way into the forest, trying to follow their original trail back to the keep.
