D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Polymorph & Dismissal

Greenfield Could you provide the link? I linked the Special Abilities definition of 3.5 Polymorph from the SRD, and it did not contain the text that you quoted.
The 3.0 Polymorph on D&D Wiki has the text that you quoted, but the SRD did not.

Okay, so it seems the rules disagree with themselves in regards to what you can polymorph into, and if your type changes, so for now, I'd go with the actual Spell, which says that you can become a creature of the same type, and that your type does change when you polymorph.

So... can we get some agreements in regards to whether or not Dismissal would actually send a polymorphed creature back to it's "home plane" (or natural plane for a creature of that type)? Since almost no one except for the first few posters have commented on that.
Empirate: I am very much debating this. Again, my group had NEVER really optimized like this before, or even used spells to such efficieny... or cheesiness, if you will, so I felt no need to get rid of spells like this. But... if the player is intent on cheesing it out, I may just have to get rid of Polymorph and associated spells. Or find a way to reasonably rework them.

My SRD is 3.5, but may be an older version. (I can tell by looking at the Ranger, and seeing whether or not he still sucked.)

WOTC updated the official one several times over the years.

It's going to be up to the DM.

To me, your "home plane" is the one you were born on, regardless of race or type. The "Native Outsider" v "Outsider" distinction describes the race in general, but not necessarily every member of that race.

On the other hand, using Polymorph (a 4th level spell) and Dismissal (a 4th or 5th level spell) in combination to emulate a single-character version of a 7th level spell isn't exactly a rules rape. Particularly when you can't pick your destination at all, and have to trust the DM not to drop you in a really bad place. Remember, unlike Plane Shift, you don't get to pick which part of that plane your temporary character type calls home. He/she can drop you absolutely anywhere.

Alarikun You could, as a suggestion, give Dismissal it's 20% chance to dismiss a polymorphed creature to a random plane, but not allow it the 80% chance to dismiss to their native plane.

Ah, now I think I shall clarify a bit. This isn't something the player has decided to use or abuse themselves. They used the Polymorph spell to gain quite a bit of power... but I was thinking of Dismissal in regards to their enemies using it.

They have made some enemies who are Wizards within the gameworld, and after having seen this, they've been thinking on how to defeat her. There are a multitude of ways, Dismissal seeming to be one of the more extremes. Flesh to Stone is also a possibility, to at least nullify her until the NPCs have taken care of her party.

But I believe I will allow Dismissal to function on the Polymorphed form, for the time being. I appreciate people's recommendations and suggestions, and I think this is the best. If people are interested, I will let them know how everything turns out in regards to it. If not, I can always leave this thread to fade away.
