3.5e Players, 4e GM

I did a hybrid 4e (DM) and 3e (players) game for awhile. Unfortunately to make it work I had to reverse engineer a bunch of stuff. It started to confuse my players.

Minions sort of work in 3e.

Frankly, if the idea is to reduce DM load, just drag them kicking and screaming to 4e. There is no incentive for a player to jump to 4e if they are happy with 3e, the work is offloaded to the DM to balance a system that is out of balance.

Also, your monsters are going to have powers that the players don't (forced movement being a biggy), the effects are going to be different, and magic item assumptions are going to be way out of whack.

If you can make it work, more power to you.

Good luck,

Holy Crap, you just totally won the thread.

Of course, it being a creation of the Vile PAIZO I cannot use it. ;-)

Yeah, If I tweak monsters off of that chart and add in minions and more off the cuff powers, I'm all set. Woot.

Use those stats as the 3e math numbers and you can then put the rest of a 4e monster in mostly wholesale. For example zombies who die on crits (head shots) would work fine in a 3e game IMO. Just watch out for things like undead that take away healing surges if you haven't house ruled surges into your 3e game.
