D&D 4E 3 months in and 7 to go - will YOU switch to 4e?

How will my game be affected by 4e?

Well, I'm still playing 3.0 by and large cause it never really seemed worth it to go 3.5.

So I might leapfrog to 4.0 now... on the other hand, 3.0 is still cool and 3.5 is about to get a whole lot cheaper too.

Decisions, decisions....

My group is largely limited by the economics of it. I know 2 players will strongly resist the change, just because it will cost so much. (Yep, even a $40 one-time purchase makes them leery.) So I'm not entirely convinced we'll change.
Likewise, no where has it been proved to me that I need 4e. About the only thing I've read that I like is some of the fluff, and that I can do on my own in 3.5e.
That all being said, I'm a freelancer. I want to freelance more, so I might buy it, learn it and write about it. ... Or I could just write for one of the other ten systems I know.

Our current 3.5 game will be done before then, but we'll probably be playing something else existing. Maybe another 3.5 game, although I'd like to play something else, personally.

So far, my group has no plans to update at all.

Based on all of the amazing information that we have received thus far, my plan is to stick with my 3.X homebrew, and adapt bits of 4e that I like to my own ruleset. That said, I think that there will be some 4e products that I'll enjoy, and will definitely convert. If the fleshed out Forbidden City from I1 is producted with a poster map, for example, I'll buy it and convert it. (If it turns out like WotC's version of Undermountain, though, they can keep it! :] )

I think over 90% of the released information about 4e thus far is just a bunch of commercials with no real content. I'm tired of being told that WotC is responsive to consumers while saying almost nothing (thank you Doomspore, though!), and with being told that an extensive advertising/hype campaign is reaching out to the community. Frankly, it's an insult to the intelligence of every D&D player here and elsewhere.

Even so, I hope that WotC puts out a product that is so phenominal that it forces me to change my mind and crawl back to EN World with my tail between my legs and a new set of books in my hand. When a new RPG product comes out, the best case scenario is always that this new product is a "must have"!

I may buy the PHB so I can read it and give it a fair chance. If it's anything like I expect, then I'll stay away from 4e games. I may be wrong, it may be great.

Our current Planescape campaign will probably wrap up sometime next year, so we'll start up a fresh 4th Ed campaign sometime next year.

As for converting, maybe if the current characters from our campaign get sucked into another one, we might convert them to 4th Ed.
