D&D 4E 3 months in and 7 to go - will YOU switch to 4e?

How will my game be affected by 4e?

For the moment I am underwhelmed.

I don't need 4e. I haven't been given any good reason to change. It seems 4e is designed for people who don't like 3.5, without anything so far for those who like 3.5 like me.

I'm staying with 3.5, and actually want to play/run older editions of the game as well (First ed. AD&D, specifically). I do not look forward to 4E - I doubt I will even pick up the core books at this point, which is a change from 3 months ago.

Since when does "opinion" equate to truth?
Maybe Sunderstone meant that it was a true statement of Odhanan's opinion. He felt that Odhanan wasn't lying or deceiving himself, and wished to let us know this was the case.

Now you may ask how Sunderstone could know this. The only explanation I can think of is that Sunderstone is telepathic. He read Odhanan's mind and saw that what he had to say was a correct, or true, statement of his (ie Odhanan's) beliefs regarding 4e.

This is what everyone means when they use 'QFT', right?

I like your take on it.

Am I the only person who watched those initial podcasts and thought of the infamous "My hat of d02 know no limits" rant?

(And I mean here, that I thought that the WotC reps were saying their hat of d02 knew no limit.)
Interesting. I didn't read 3.x hate from any of the podcast, marketing, or online articles. I simply read that they realized after years of 3.x rules being out there and heavily played by the masses, that they accepted and understood that 3.x has it's failings. Many of them play 3.x now, and have been playing it for years so I doubt that they hate it.

In my opinion, they were tasked to update the game to get some fresh faces, some regular ongoing revenue. As a result they decided that they should really TRY to revise the game to fix the flaws, cater to new players, and sell books. At the same time, they all really DO want to make it fun and enjoyable by the most amount of people. These designers are good, and they love D&D.

It's good business, combined with an honest effort by the designers and developers to make a fun updated version of D&D. That's all I ever got out of it.

If it's anything like the Wildside Fantasy Role Play* system, I'll track down the designers and kill every last one of them.

*If you've never heard of this, you're a very, very lucky person.

Not to worry.

4th edition sounds much more like SenZar!

I'm still in limbo. I don't know enough about 4e to say that I will convert to 4e, but I like what I've seen enough to say that I might.

I probably won't be using the setting right out of the box. I probably will make a PS4e game one of my first projects. I *know* I'll be cribbing from 4e to put together FFZ.

But FFZ is close enough to playable that it might actually replace D&D if 4e's problems turn out to be too deep for me to handle. It doesn't do the dungeon raids and minis combat quite as well, but it does do cinematic fantasy quite well. :)
