D&D 4E 3 months in and 7 to go - will YOU switch to 4e?

How will my game be affected by 4e?

Just curious as to what the consensus is on the boards in regards to the upcoming advent of 4e - will you continue with your pre-4e game (whatever edition it may be), convert your current game to 4e as best you can, or start afresh with a new game?

Poll up in a few

I'll test it out first and see how it feels. If I like it, I'll switch. Otherwise I have plenty of 3.5 adventure material to work with.

I'll wait and hear all the details from EnWorld, then a little longer until the SRD is out and I can see for myself. Then I'll wait more to let everyone else playtest it (properly, which means massively, not like it's being done now) so that we can know what are the most significant flaws. I will also wait until a print run that incorporates errata into the core books. I'll delay a bit more in case they do a revision, since I don't want to be caught unaware this time. Then finally... it will be time for 5th edition. :p

We will continue with our current campaign (3.5 FR) till it's conclusion, probably till Sept 2008. By then I will have had a chance to aquaint myself with 4E and the new FR campaign setting, at least enough to get an idea of where and what the next adventure will be.
Another player has an Arduin Eternal game planned after the current D&D one.

Still in a 'wait and see' mode. However, I can tell you what I'll be doing with any ongoing campaign when the time comes...

Shortly after the announcement, an element of 4e was revealed that was an absolute deal-breaker for me. I'm still hopeful it may be changed, although I haven't heard anything to that effect thus far. If it is not changed, I won't be buying 4e.

If that element is changed, then I will buy the 4e core rulebooks (in support of that decision if nothing else). I'll then decide whether to switch over or not. Sadly, it looks like the answer is 'not', since I've actively disliked more of what I've heard than I have liked. But I will, of course, reserve the final judgement until I see how the whole thing looks.

If I do switch, I won't be attempting a conversion - the campaign will run to its natural conclusion, and then I'll start a whole new campaign under 4e rules.

I'll probably take a good look at 4e and switch at some point. I can't imagine I won't unless I really hate it. There's nothing I particularly like at this point, but I know what I'm like and I can't make a decision until I see the whole thing.

However, I'm almost certain our Age of Worms and Shackled City campaigns will NOT switch over halfway. That'd just be too difficult. They'll just happily stay with 3.5e until they finish and that suits me fine.

We'll finish our present campaign first. This should last a good long while, so it will likely take us a year or more into 4ed - almost long enough to wait and pick up 4.5 :p

The real question for us will be whether we switch once the campaign is finished or whether we stick to 3.5 and there's no real point in speculating about that as whatever my opinions are now may well have changed by then. I may well join an online game as part of D&D Insider, however, just to check out the new system and everything.

We play our mid-level 3.5 (w. house rules) until 4E comes out.

Then we start a new 4E grp to get a good crasp of the new rules from the beginning.

Afterwards or even while we are running the new grp, we try to convert our mid-lvl grp.

I don't intend to pick it up right off. After a couple months, sure. I'm going to need the books, at the very least, to play in 4e. I just don't expect to be a part of or start a 4e tabletop game until my current campaign is over.
