Anyhow, I'm looking to see if anyone has done up the crawling claw, as the title says. I looked through the CC and the CC FAQ, but I couldn't find them, or any reason why they wouldn't have been converted. Any help before I stat them out myself?

I'm pretty sure that they're stated out in Monster's of Faerun.

Well, I'm not going to run out and buy a 20 or 30 dollar monster book I'll never use just to satisfy my curiosity, so I'll just ask a couple questions.

1. Do they detail the means of creation? A spell create crawling claws or something like that?

2. Did they include any mechanic for gouging eyes or strangling, like was suggested in the 2E MM?

1. The Monsters of Faerun indeed has such a spell with the monster entry.

2. No, but the claws do get a bonus against prone targets. [Edit: Not surprising, considering that 'specific wound locations' is not standard in 3rd Edition (and was not in 1st or 2nd, either).]

And luckily the spell isn't in a semi-2e format like the Create Chosen One spell on the following page.

There are a lot of old non-FR favourites in that book: bullywugs, perytons, abishai devils. And heaps more if you play ion the realms. But it was expensive, and it is 3.0, so you probably don't need to bother.

Quite true; about 1/4 to 1/3 of the content is stuff that was previously "core" in 1st or 2nd Edition. It was a bit pricey for such a thin paperback (96 pp) but it also has some neat stuff in it. In addition, although it is sold as a Forgotten Realms book, it reads more like an appendix to the 3.0 MM. Each monster entry has a small section for using it "in the Realms"; otherwise, it is presented pretty neutrally (except for iconic Realms creatures like the Sharn, etc.).

All-in-all, there are worse purchases. Also, RUMOR has it that the 3.5 updates to the monstes in MoF were cut from the Players Guide to the Forgotten Realms for space reasons -- and will appear as a Web Enhancement instead. That might help make it more palatable to pick up a copy of MoF.
