D&D 3E/3.5 3e, Old School Style

I've started a new series in my EN World blog which gathers a number of my house rules and ideas for a kick-back version of 3e entitled "3e, Old School Style." This week, I present the Fighter. Every Sunday, I will post a new update taking a look at other classes and rules for 3e which I have developed over the years to create a more streamlined, faster play version of 3e which plays more like an AD&D game but with some advances in modern game theory. I hope you enjoy.

Part 1: Fighter
Part 2: Rogue
Part 3: Wizard
Part 4: Cleric
Part 5: Ability Scores
Part 6: Old School Style, What It Means to Me

I especially agree with the BAB change. Having only played 3.5, I think having less but more accurate attacks makes sense.

Will the fighter get anything special to do with his standard actions so he can move and be useful since he loses full attacks when moving?

douchery is a free action that provokes.

sorry, that just couldn't be kept in.

I think all melee classes should get pounce. then there should be better melee feats that scale.

I was coming in all furious, ready to bitch/preach on how "old-school" should be a term reserved for AD&D (at least!)...and then I realized that 2000 was almost 12 years ago...

Well, this is an attempt to bring some classic AD&D mechanics that worked well back into the internally consistent d20 system. I think d20, Old School Style might be a more appropriate term for it. Whatever it's called, it's a hybrid of 3e and AD&D. More details will be forthcoming. I have hundreds of pages on this stuff. Feedback is welcome. I will be releasing it eventually as a self-contained Basic Set free pdf (no release date scheduled yet) so good ideas will be considered for the final version.

I wish you the best, but I strongly suggest giving the fighter something to do when he can't make full attacks. Maybe a standard action fear effect?

Perhaps you should consider writing an article defining what you mean by "old school style?" As is, I am having difficulty seeing how either the fighter or rogue reflect old school style play - at least, the style of 1st Edition AD&D that I play.

I am not saying that you are wrong in labeling your changes as "old school." It is just that how one defines "old school" seems to vary from person to person.

Old school = post the formation of TSR but prior to the advent of personal computers (and computer gaming / the internet). Circa 70's / 80's.
