3rd Party Recommendations

Can someone point me at, or build for me, a quick run-down on what are considered the best 3rd party publishers and/or products for d20M please? Thanks in advance!

Can't speak to any mass consensus, but what I consider the best third party material for d20 modern would include:

  • Blood & Fists
  • Second World Sourcebook
  • Darwin's World 2
  • Sidewinder: Recoiled
  • Blood & Space 2
  • Dawning Star
  • Elements of Magic: Mythic Earth

Of course, there is so much variety in the modern field, I can't admit to having it all. :)

What kind of products are you looking for? Military? Crime? Mystery? Sci-Fi? Occult/Horror?

Overall, you can't go wrong with Ronin Arts and RPGObjects for d20 Modern titles. You might also check out Modern Dispatch .

I'm specifically looking for adventures and locales in a contemporary setting. Any genre is fine although my campaign is a low-FX (but not *no* FX), X-Files kind of deal, and I want stuff I can port relatively easily into it.

Having said that I also just want to get up to speed on 3rd party support for d20M...

There are many good d20 Modern 3rd party publishers. Check my signature for a more complete list (d20 Modern Resource list).

For adventures you have 3 good ones: The Game Mechanics, RPGObjects and 12 to Midnight. These 3 also publish some of the best source material covering many genres from Space to Apocalypse to Horror/Creep. All 3 have exceptionally high production quality (they look good).

There are many more that worth mentioning. Blue Devil Games publishes a great space setting called Dawning Start. EN World Publishing has good supplements you can check out here. Dog House Rules does a great Western line with Sidewinder: Recoiled.

These are my favorites, but there are many more quality publishers out there (all of them I know about are in the List).

Prest0's company, 12 to Midnight, actually writes low-FX occult horror adventures and has a little free campaign setting detailing a little Texan town on the website.

I'll also toot my own horn, as the FX products detailed in my sig are specifically tailored to low-FX occult-style games.

We have a free adventure for download on our Dawning Star website. Edge of Shadow could be tweaked for a low-FX modern setting with a little work, e.g., the alien ruin becomes an abandoned government test facility. And TERRAFORMER 2 - Bone Orchard Encounter is a fun little encounter where nanotech gone awry yields Dawn of the Dead (and only $1.95 to boot).

(And thanks to everyone who had such nice things to say about DS.)

If you're looking for locales, there's Modern Backdrops by RPGObjects.
They're not full cities, but rather, places of interest within those cities. If you have some in-game towns/cities where the PCs call their stomping grounds, it's relatively easy to just incorporate the places into existing locations.
There is one problem with it, though... In my editing of it, I totally missed the occupations on the NPCs...
Full disclosure is that my wife wrote it, and we make money off of it. :)
That doesn't keep it from being a really good resource, though. Complete with maps, plot hooks, a few new critters, and NPCs (minus occupations).

Hiya.

If you're looking for an X-files type of book, you might check out Alien Invasion, produced by my company, Reality Deviant Publications. We're an imprint of RPGobjects.
