4 year anniversary coming up...

Which doesn't sound like much, but the group is completely on line. We game via SKYPE using Maptools and 4 out of 7 of us are still the original group. So this is new for all of us in the group. I have had groups last over 10 years face to face, but this is the first time I have had a on line group last 4 years. Same for all of us in the group.

So I thought I would post about it and get a sense of how many other such groups have managed to stick together for years, and if they are previous face to face groups that just spread to the 4 winds, or are like us and didn't know anyone else until we started up this group.

I think I have heard of text groups staying together for a long time, but all I remember hearing about groups like mine was how hard it as to get one going, let alone keep it going.

So anyone else out there been doing as well with online groups?

I run an online campaign that started in '93, and 4 out of the 8 of us are original members from game 1. Back then we had a player in Australia, one in England, one in California, and two in Tennessee. Now we have two in England, two in New York, one in California, and three in Tennessee.

Someone had the forethought to save logs of all the games (we play on mIRC and now use MapTools for battles), and we now have a wiki with nearly 8 years of gaming goodness.

The internet was a wild, unexplored frontier in the early days...

The core group of my face to face group from HS and college are still close friends, we just haven't gamed an RPG since Feb '97. Lots of MMORPGs since then with them tho.

I'm in a C&C game via Fantasy Grounds for about a year and a half. I think I am the only original besides the CK. Still a great campaign tho'.

Even with a short hiatus in the late 90s, there are five of our original 10 member group from the early 80s still playing.

I had written a lot of handy mirc scripts for 2e for one online campaign i played.

The system could hold your stats by screen name, thus i could run multiple chars.

If the dm wrote "janx dam 5" the script would subtract 5 hp from my pc and tell us both how many i had left.

I could also do attack rolls with it.
