Interesting that love it and hate it were growing fairly equally and then all of a sudden an extra 300+ votes appear in the 'love it' section.

While it may be that a group of fans all suddenly found this thread and decided to vote, the sudden leap forward in one option has, in the past, tended to be as a result of ballot-stuffing in one way or another.

I hope that isn't the case, and that it is still the result of honest voting.

(I don't mind what the result of the poll is, BTW. Just noting a sudden unusual change in the pattern)

Regards

I guess you didn't see the 3e Love It or Hate poll yet — the "Hate It" option there jumped by about 400 votes at the same time this poll's "Love It" option jumped. :erm:

WOW. That many votes in that short a time span and no posts expounding on any reasoning smells fishy to me.

As long as that is possible on Enworld the polls will have even less meaning than usual Internet polls.

Ya think?

I had problems with 4e from the day it was announced, and alot of the predictions I made about how 4e wouldn't work were correct. My group and I have been playing 4e for about 14 months now, and I still dont like the game.

There are too many small things that dont make sense, where any logic and continuity has been sacrificed for the rules of the game. The magic, both in spells and items, isnt very magical. Rituals still have the feel of a last second tack-on.

And I truly truly hate classes being tied to role.

On the other hand, DMing is much easier. Putting encounters together isnt hard, and that makes adventure design a breeze. The only problem I have is giving out treasure, since most of the items are meh, and there isnt much to do with gold other than buy more magic.

So, I tolerate the game because my players made interesting characters for an interesting campaign, and it is easy for me to run. We play 4e in spite of the rules, not because of them.

I have noticed that we buy less of the books tho, which means to WOTC, 4e is a failure for my group.

If you take out the 300-400 questionables, then the poll looks like about 2/3 for, 1/3 against, which has been pretty constant for a year, IIRC.

And people wonder why I say internet polls here are intended for fun only, and should never be used as evidence of anything meaningful...

I find it bizarre that people say otherwise, in all honesty. I mean, yeah, it feels good when you can point at a poll and say "See, I'm totally right!" But when it's an internet poll, all you're doing is hurting your own argument b y showing that you actually find such a poll accurate. It's like they're going out of their way to make themselves look less credible.

I don't know if I find it depressing or hilarious, with how many people have used these two polls to try and prove a point.

That anyone would take the time, or make the effort, to change the results of an internet poll in what I can only imagine is some bizarre attempt to validate their game of choice, or lash out in some ridiculous fit of nerd rage, is quite possibly one of the most sad and pathetic notions I've ever heard. I can only wonder if the purveyor of such socially maladjusted behavior is so repugnant in their demeanor that they might not even have anyone to play the game, they are so poorly championing, with in the first place.

I despise the 4e treasure parcels, as an example. I don't really mind the basic concept, but it's almost enforced. I like random treasure that's occasionally crappy, but there's no way for me to generate random treasure. And, the thing that absolutely infuriates me -- to the point of not wanting to use Dungeon -- is that the modules make you add the treasure in yourself. Of all the freaking stupid concepts. Treasure is one of the most annoying activities in creating my own adventures. What the heck am I paying WotC for? Yeah, the maps are nice, and the adventure seeds are cool, but treasure is part of the deal. Building encounters is easy enough in 4e that I'd almost prefer the 3e Map-a-Week feature. I've been running the AP, but the current module (Umbraforge) doesn't even include locations for the parcels -- what a cop out.

The major reason my group decided to go with D&D over Hero or Storyteller was because of the support offered via modules -- I'm darn short on time. This half-assed handling of modules is enough to guarantee I'll never "love" it.

I think the treasure parcels are one of the best things about 4e and module writing. I played enough modules where I never got items my halfling thief could use that I like that I can make sure items are geared towards my players. To each their own, I guess!
