D&D 4E 4E borrowing from C&C?

Mere chance, or is WotC borrowing heavily from successful competitors? Not that there's anything wrong with that, other than causing smug satisfaction in C&C converts.

Let me get this right. C&C is based on d20, right? So basically it's a game that didn't really make its own rules, merely copy-pasted what someone else had done and then tweaked a few parts of it?

Talk about irony :uhoh:

You may want to actually read the rules of C&C. The SIEGE engine isn't exactly OGL/D20.

C&C has the OGL for using spells and the same terminology, not for using the D20 mechanic. It uses the SIEGE engine, which bases saves off of the releveant stat, rather than just 3, and has Primes and non-Primes.

If you want, go to trolllord.com, click on their downloads, and download the "Quickstart Rules" for free. It gives the basics of the SIEGE engine there.

I heard this awesome cover of that Led Zeppelin song Traveling Riverside Blues by this guy Robert Johson yesterday. Check it out. :p
I, for one, hope there's at least an optional rule to introduce some additional granularity into the skill system. I rather liked being able to dump skill points into diplomacy for an unorthodox fighter, for example.

Star Wars (and maybe 4e?) takes care of that, in a way, by just letting everybody be a little bit skilled at almost everything. However, it's still not much of a way to distinguish your character if everyone can do it.

Scott - is there a Zeppelin cover you can point me to that will allay my concerns? ;)

I have seen multiple things previously seen in some Green Ronin products (like Asmodues as god, or merging the sensory and stealth skills).

In the original True20, you had untrained skills, where you just added the ability, and trained skills, where you added level +3 + ability to the check. BUT, I think they went back to "choose your own ranks" in the revised True20.
