4E Burnout - What to do next?

For the last 15 years its been D&D -> Shadowrun -> White-Wolf(usually Vampire but Werewolf and Mage get some good table time to) -> D&D etc etc with a few short stints on other systems

I almost think you should try the most complicated system you can find, thoroughly get sick of it, and come back to the relative simplicity of 4E with relief and joy.

The AD&D campaign I'm running is going nothing like I expected it would, but it's giving us all a great time. Same with the 4E campaign I'm still running (using Open Design's Lost City).

Our group has just about reached the same spot... Ran through half of Scales of War and we're just now finishing up Revenge of the Giants. After 20 levels of 4E and 10+ years of D20, things are beginning to drag.

So, we're going to change tack, and try out FATE. We might end up playing "D&D" using the Dresden Files RPG rules, or maybe Star Wars or Firefly using Starblazer Adventures

Just want to leave an anecdote here for a similar situation...

I burned out on 4e around when Essentials came rolling out. Unfortunately everyone else was still playing it so I stuck with it out of having nothing better to do. Finally I couldn't do it anymore and took a hiatus. Then the group took a small hiatus to boot.

We have since reconvened and started playing Labryinth Lord (Although its really just a clone of D&D and AD&D 1e both simplified a bit).

I can't describe the enjoyment I had at exploring an empty and abandoned gatehouse just like the old days. No HP to spare, one hit away from dying at all times, the only thing keeping you going is the healthy paranoia of assuming death behind every corner.

It was such a 180 degree turn from starting off in 4e where all encounters are balanced to provide just so much reduction of you resources, where you really have to try hard to kill off your character, and where everything on your sheet had something to do with combat on a grid.

I suggest you guys pick up any old-school game you guys agree on if for nothing else than to inject some creativity back into your game to decide on where to go next.
